About The Role Are you a dynamic and experienced ecologist looking for an opportunity to step up and take on more responsibility? Do you have experience in undertaking protected species and habitat surveys, project management, and mentoring ecologists? Do you envision a role that allows you to independently manage a portfolio of projects and clients, whilst still getting out into the field? At APEM, we are actively seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Principal Ecologist to join our close-knit ecology team to help us deliver innovative ecological work across the North West and Midlands of England. Alongside team management and growth, your responsibilities will include producing excellent reports, exploring new tender opportunities, and actively contributing to business development and marketing initiatives. Supported by our experienced team, you'll be part of our senior UK ecology division that feeds into our strategic decision-making. This is an excellent opportunity to not only enhance your skills and expertise but also act as a mentor to junior staff. To be successful in this role, you'll need: Up-to-date knowledge of EU and UK legislation pertaining to ecology and environmental issues, as well as Ecological Impact Assessment (EcIA) and planning regulations. Experience of undertaking survey work including leading protected species surveys and mitigation projects. A track record in, or aspirations for, continuing professional development and supporting the development/management of junior ecologists. Proven experience of expanding and managing a terrestrial ecology portfolio within a consultancy setting and representing it to external stakeholders. Experience of providing authoritative ecological advice and innovative mitigation solutions/enhancement considerations across a range of sites and schemes with varying levels of environmental and ecological sensitivities.
