Senior Engineering Surveyor . Job Overview: The Senior Engineering Surveyor plays a crucial role in ensuring the accurate and efficient execution of construction projects through precise measurements, layout, and surveying techniques. They are responsible for setting out works, verifying dimensions, and providing technical support to on-site teams when required, analysing design models, providing support to pre-construction teams when required, monitoring/managing third party engineers, and monitoring less senior members of staff. This role requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and a thorough understanding of construction processes and regulations in the UK. Responsibilities: Digital Engineering: Use industry-specific software to interrogate survey and design information to create detailed, accurate digital terrain models. Calculate cut/fill volumes throughout the pre-construction and construction stages. Produce clear and professional drawings for stakeholders. Liaise with estimators to provide tender support when required. Utilise online platforms to transmit design information to plant. Create maps and grid references in GIS software. Produce and check UAV data, ensuring sufficient accuracy, when required. Detect and advise on Value Engineering opportunities. Setting out and Surveying: Conduct precise setting out of works using total stations, GPS, and other surveying instruments to ensure accuracy and alignment with project plans. Perform detailed surveys to verify existing site conditions, levels, and dimensions, and provide technical data for project planning and execution. Install and process rigid surveys control networks when required. Troubleshoot and fix machine control issues. Carry out UAV flights, ensuring compliance with regulations (if qualified). Quality Control: Verify construction work against design specifications, drawings, and quality standards to ensure compliance and identify deviations or discrepancies. Conduct inspections and quality checks to monitor workmanship and identify areas for improvement. Check and verify survey information provided by third party engineers or less senior members of staff. Keep clear and concise records of work carried out throughout the life cycle of projects. Technical Support: Provide technical guidance and support to on-site teams and project managers on matters related to engineering design, construction methods, and surveying techniques. Assist in the resolution of technical issues and challenges that arise during construction, proposing solutions to ensure project objectives are met. Provide machine control support and liaise with suppliers to resolve issues. Health and Safety: Adhere to and enforce health and safety protocols to create a safe working environment for all personnel on site. Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of survey data, site measurements, and construction progress, documenting any changes or deviations from the original plans. Prepare reports, progress summaries, and other documentation to communicate key information to project stakeholders effectively. Skills/Qualifications: Essential: CSCS Card or similar accreditation (Construction Skills Certification Scheme). Experience as a senior engineering surveyor in the construction industry, with proficiency in setting out works and conducting surveys. Strong knowledge of surveying techniques, instruments, and 3D software, including AutoCAD and GPS systems. Excellent mathematical skills and attention to detail. Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications accurately. Familiarity with health and safety regulations and best practices. Machine control experience. Desirable: Bachelor's degree or diploma in civil engineering, surveying, or related field. SSSTS or SMSTS accreditation. Professional membership of relevant industry bodies.
