Due to sustained growth, Labman is seeking to recruit an experienced Electronics Engineer or a Mechatronics Engineer with good electronics skills to join our team.

Labman delivers bespoke robotics and software systems to major companies and public bodies all over the world. The job will be challenging and dynamic with opportunities to work with a huge range of established and emergent technologies, providing you with opportunities to learn and develop your skillset.

You will be working alongside a dedicated team of mechanical, electrical, electronic, and software engineers at Labman’s HQ in North Yorkshire, UK. It is a creative and innovative environment, full of the latest robotic systems and technologies, as well as a climbing wall, gym, and even a squash court. There will be opportunities to travel, within the UK and worldwide.

What the Job Involves

Design and development of embedded systems to support Labman projects and products.

Developing medical and life-sciences oriented point-of-care instruments to support European research initiatives.

Developing electronic, microfluidic, and mechanical subsystems and coding firmware.

Working with clients and consortium partners including leading scientists, specialist engineering companies, and production partners.

Keeping abreast of state-of-the-art technologies and developing techniques for use in future systems.

Supporting existing systems out in the field.

Frequent customer interaction.

Contribution to the development of your colleagues.

Working with companies and public bodies across the world.

Essential Capabilities

At least 2 years’ professional experience.

Strong background in digital and analogue electronics with a good grasp of the fundamentals including circuit theory and discrete design.

At least 1 year’s experience with microcontroller programming experience in C and C++.

Familiarity with ARM architectures, particularly the Cortex-M0+ based Microcontroller family, and the STM32 range (inc. CubeIDE).

Use of professional PCB design software.

Solid experience with driving stepper motors, DC brushless motors, and servos.

Exposure to or preferably hands-on experience with microfluidic systems.

Good English literacy skills for producing documentation.

Excellent team worker with good communication skills.

The successful candidate is expected to work within the Labman ISO9001 framework in all relevant aspects of the work.

Excellent practical skills, will need to demonstrate strong practical capability.

Desirable Skills / Experience

Good feel for mechanical design and materials.

3D CAD experience (e.g., Solidworks, Autodesk, or Fusion 360).

Some automation industry experience.
