The role will be responsible for ensuring commitment to safety and compliance with all relevant regulations whilst ensuring customer satisfaction. In addition, responsibilities will include the safe navigation of all vessels (c6000 movements per annum) in the port limits and pilotage area of Larne and Cairnryan, carrying out the statutory duties of the Harbour Master for 2 ports ensuring they comply with the Port Marine Safety Code.

Ideal candidates will have the ability to obtain UKHMA Harbour Master Certificate of Competency or similar qualification within 18 months, and should hold either STCW 95 II/2 (Masters unlimited) Certificate of Competency (or equivalent) or a lesser STCW qualification, combined with relevant safety management experience. They should be able to demonstrate a thorough knowledge of all relevant Marine, Harbour and Environmental legislation as well as the principles of risk assessment.

They should have a sound knowledge of ro-ro ferry and general cargo operations as well as ISPS experience at managerial level, with a commercially focused approach and a good knowledge of Health & Safety requirements including oil pollution response.
