Job Description for Effluent Rig Operations - Technical Support: NNL is where you’ll experiment to help solve global challenges. This role is to provide specialist support to task and project delivery within the technical capability of Characterisation and Effluent Rig Operations at NNL’s Workington Laboratory, with an emphasis on providing support to key plants across the Sellafield site. The successful candidate will also be expected to provide support to WM&D’s Decontamination capability. The role will involve close working with Technical Leads and other team members as well as interaction with a range of internal and external customers and undertaking a range of bench and rig scale experimental programmes. It will include analysing data from the rigs and experimental programmes, producing reports and presenting information at customer meetings. The successful candidate will maintain focus on the safe delivery of the work while delivering to both internal and external customer expectations. Main Responsibilities for Effluent Rig Operations - Technical Support: Operational and technical provision in the fields of effluent chemistry and rig operations as directed by the technical lead and capability manager. Conduct a range of bench and rig scale experimental work. Ensure technical quality of experimental work through best practice and regular consultation with technical leads & capability/project Managers. Take responsibility for accurate records of work carried out and reporting of results as required. Establish and develop strong collaborative relationships with customers and suppliers. Take responsibility for training and development of self and other team members including the provision of coaching to develop the team's skills and abilities. Ensure all relevant safety and quality rules and procedures are applied by team members working on their projects. Lead by example and take responsibility particularly with respect to safety and following up and escalating any issues. Essential Criteria for Effluent Rig Operations - Technical Support: Degree / MChem qualified in chemistry, member of a professional body or institute. Relevant industrial experience working at rig scale including the interpretation of results to consistently high standards of safety and quality. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. The ability to effectively train, mentor and coach others within the team. Evidence of ability to deliver experimental work programmes including coordination of work while maintaining high safety standards. Flexibility in dealing with changing workloads and experience of being flexible and adapting the approach to experimental work and reporting, according to customer requirements. Sets high standards for their own work and any project teams, ensuring detailed work records are maintained in accordance with required safety, security and environmental procedures. Manage and mitigate safety, security and safeguard hazards and risks relevant to the delivery of technical work and seek opportunities to resolve issues and minimise impacts. Ability to obtain SC level security clearance (this includes but is not limited to identity, employment, financial and criminal record checks plus 5 years’ worth of UK residency). Desirable Criteria for Effluent Rig Operations - Technical Support: Pre-existing technical understanding of effluent management and waste characterisation in relation to nuclear applications.
