Tier I Information Technology (IT) Support Technician
to provide essential technical support to our users and IT systems at the North Shields site. This is a hands-on, entry-level role ideal for someone looking to start a career in IT. You will assist with troubleshooting, user support, and basic system maintenance, while learning from more experienced team members. This position requires working onsite with no remote work option. Key Responsibilities: User Machines & Shop Floor Support :
Install software and set up new employee systems, including imaging and hardware installations. Troubleshoot basic connectivity issues involving docking stations, laptops, desktops, and shop floor IT equipment. Provide support for office products, operating systems, and hardware.
Office Equipment :
Troubleshoot basic printer and scanning issues, escalating more complex issues as necessary.
Active Directory :
Assist with basic Active Directory tasks, including managing Security Groups, Distribution Lists, and user creation. Gain a foundational understanding of DHCP and DNS.
Software Support :
Utilize a ticketing system to log, track, and resolve IT issues in a timely manner. Provide support for Windows 10/11, Office 365, and related software products.
Cloud Services :
Familiarity with SharePoint as a user, with opportunities to expand knowledge of cloud-based tools.
Network Support :
Apply basic understanding of networks, WiFi, and VPNs to assist with troubleshooting network issues.
Server Management :
Assist in file share creation and management, ensuring proper user permissions are in place.
Mobile Device Support :
Provide basic support for iOS devices, such as iPhones and iPads.
Scripting and Automation :
Gain exposure to PowerShell scripting for automating routine tasks.
Other Responsibilities :
Assist with other tasks as assigned by the Global IT Manager or onsite Tier II Analyst.
Required Skills and Qualifications: Basic knowledge of IT support and troubleshooting. Familiarity with basic networking concepts (WiFi, VPNs). Ability to provide basic hardware and software support. Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Strong organizational skills with a focus on meeting deadlines and completing tasks efficiently. Willingness to learn and develop in a fast-paced IT environment. Preferred Skills: Familiarity with Windows 10/11 and Office 365. Experience using ticketing systems to manage and resolve IT support issues. Basic knowledge of Active Directory, including user management and group policies. Experience with mobile device support, particularly iOS devices (iPhones, iPads). Exposure to cloud services like SharePoint. Experience in basic server and file share management. Interest in learning PowerShell scripting and automation. Education: GCSE or equivalent is required, with a focus on Information Technology or a related field being a plus.
