About The Role

This role requires expert knowledge in Electrical Engineering, including Instrumentation, Control and Automation (EICA) design, specifically in the water/wastewater treatment industry. The Senior Electrical Design Engineer will have extensive experience in developing EICA design solutions in municipal settings and will support projects in the industrial sector. The Senior Electrical Design Engineer will provide design leadership, mentoring intermediate and junior designers and project engineers. They will integrate within our multi-disciplinary design team and work alongside external consultants and supply chain partners to develop robust design solutions. This role involves solution selection, EICA design, application engineering, proposal support, and operational support. Experience in the whole cycle of treatment processes from concept and detailed design to commissioning and handover is essential. The Senior Electrical Design Engineer will demonstrate a strong understanding of quality, safety, and commercial drivers associated with project design and delivery. They will bring an innovative approach to bespoke projects and promote electrical safety in equipment selection and installation, fostering awareness across the organization. The Senior Electrical Design Engineer UK reports to the Design Manager UK.

The role may require support for Coffey projects based in Ireland, including internal check and review processes and occasional design input. Location: This role is hybrid, based at Coffey UK Head Office in Burntwood, Staffordshire, with an option to work from home on agreed days with the Design Manager. Travel to live project locations and client meetings will be necessary. Key Duties and Responsibilities: Support the Design Manager to deliver Coffey Group design works across the UK for public and private sector clients (with occasional support for projects in Ireland). Perform preliminary and detailed EICA design of water/wastewater treatment plants. Apply appropriate software to provide advice, solutions, and successful outcomes to achieve contract objectives. Develop and adopt standards in design to streamline engineering tasks. Liaise and develop relationships with external consultants, supply chain partners, contractors, and other stakeholders. Determine applicable design and installation standards, ensuring their application on projects. Mentor, train, and provide guidance to staff within the EICA engineering team. Develop cable schedules, block diagrams, and single line diagrams. Plan and develop electrical layout drawings, including cable runs and ducts, using CAD packages or software as applicable. Develop motor and instrumentation schedules. Develop drive and load schedules. Develop hardwired interlock schedules. Experience in developing I/O, FDS, and Control Philosophies for Water and Wastewater infrastructure. Contribute to functional design specifications. Conduct testing (FAT and SAT) of MCC and control panels. Inspect and assess electrical installations. Assist in developing commissioning procedures and project-specific plans. Support the commercial/estimating team in developing CAPEX and OPEX models for electrical, instrumentation, control, and automation equipment and systems. Technical specification and report writing. Occasional travel to project sites will be required. About You

Desirable Skills, Experience and Qualifications: Bachelor (Hons) Degree in Electrical Engineering. 10+ years of experience in EICA Design in the water/wastewater sector. Chartered status preferred; working towards Chartered status is essential. Professional Membership of a relevant institution. Proven experience in delivering technical designs. Excellent technical and commercial knowledge of electrical infrastructure design, construction, and commissioning. Experience with electrical installations, MCC, SCADA, and PLCs in the water/wastewater industry. Familiarity with the design of site power distribution, cabling, pumps, DOL and start-delta drives, variable speed drives, and various types of motorized plant common within the water/wastewater industry. Strong organizational skills and report writing experience with relevant electrical standards. Proficient in Microsoft Office suite and knowledgeable in 2D/3D CAD software. Ability to work efficiently, both independently and in a team environment. Strong people skills. Diligent with attention to detail. Full and Clean UK/EU driving license. About Us
