Senior Design Engineer (Transmissions)

Ricardo’s Performance Products division are seeking a Senior Design Engineer to complete the design of transmissions and associated components including creation of solid models and detailed drawings. Supporting the release of the drawings, through manufacture and assembly, to delivery to the customer. Key accountabilities Detailed mechanical design work including stress calculations, FMEA’s, 2D detailing, 2D layouts and tolerance stacks. FEA analysis of components and systems, shaft and bearing analysis and gear data specification. Material selection and process specification. Responsible for calculations for gear, shaft and bearing systems. Finite element analysis (Creo Simulate) Liaison with customers and suppliers. Creation of technical reports and documentation as required for engineering projects. Support Manufacturing and Assembly during “First Off” builds. Support Operations with design queries and concession requests. An office-based role, but there is a potential for extensive travel to support customer visits and meetings around the UK, Europe and, potentially, worldwide and the holder of a driving licence. Preferred skills and experience and knowledge Degree (Bachelor or Masters) in Mechanical Engineering or similar field or with equivalent technical experience. Experience working in an Automotive or Motorsport environment and way of working to achieve customer requirements. Technical knowledge of automotive transmission systems. Proven capability of detail design and component solid modelling with Creo or CAD (Catia or NX) systems in similar environment. Ability to understand, produce and check 2D technical drawings to a high standard with high GD&T competency. Experience with PLM systems (Windchill preferred). Experience of modern manufacturing methods. A working knowledge of FEA techniques. Advanced knowledge of Excel for solving mathematical problems. A flexible approach, being able to work successfully in a small team to aggressive timescales. A willingness to travel. Specification of gear geometry. Material selection and heat treatment. Casting materials and techniques. Additive manufacturing techniques. Knowledge of EMobility drivetrain systems and industry trends, gear technology and Design. Hydraulic circuitry.
