A Power Electronics Engineer is required for a Design and Development solutions organisation company, based in a popular Cheshire location. The Engineering team is being expanded to develop and mature a portfolio of Power Exchangers to deploy into global power grid systems. Responsibilities:

Providing technical expertise for the power electronics, and interfaces to the control and data monitoring systems. System level knowledge and expertise in the product and its applications. Understanding customer, market and regulatory requirements for power distribution grid interfaces. Ideas generation for new products covering all areas of expertise. Design of power electronics systems to meet product requirements. Creating component level modelling of the power electronic system and its interface to the power grid. Writing tests for inclusion in the test plan for the power electronics. Working with the team and certification agencies to gain product approval. Member of the design review team for power electronics system and its sub-systems. Design of high-power filters, transformer interfaces and IGBT/ MOSFET systems. Design of gate driver and control architecture and measurement circuitry. Experience of PCB layout design and manufacturing support. Performing product testing of power electronic systems at 1 MVA and above. Expertise of power electronics design, analogue and digital systems, embedded system, control engineering, system simulation, semiconductor switching devices and thermal design. Design of products to meet electromagnetic compatibility standards. Experience of NI equipment, LabVIEW and python scripting would be a distinct advantage. Skills:

Bachelor’s Degree in relevant Engineering discipline: Electrical, Electronic, Software. Technical decision making and influencing skills. Experience in simulation tools i.e. Matlab / Simulink, PSPICE. Requirements capture and management. Experience in formal methodologies and V-cycle for Systems Engineering. Experience designing and certifying Safety Critical Systems (SIL 1 +). Experience of electronics and electrical development tools, techniques and methodologies. Experience of designing microprocessor-based systems. Knowledge of the application of power electronic systems and power converters. Using KiCad to create Schematics and PCB designs. Using AutoCad Electrical to create schematics and wiring diagrams. Knowledge of LV and MV power networks and their topologies would be a distinct advantage.
