The Data Science team at NPL is expanding and we are looking for motivated candidates at all levels of experience from early career to experienced scientists/data engineers/software developers. Your role will focus on bringing best practice from software development into scientific data management to drive the NPL Scientific Digital Transformation program. Working alongside the world-leading scientists at NPL and our partners in academia and industry, you will help advance their research by creating optimal data infrastructures throughout varied projects. You will be working across the entire data pipeline across a range of application areas, from configuring data sources to integrating analytical tools. You will be developing data architectures, protocols, and software tools to promote the FAIR principles (making data findable, accessible, inter-operable, and reusable) and enable knowledge representation and reasoning. We are looking for self-motivated individuals who are comfortable supporting the data needs of multiple teams and platforms. You will be working in a diverse and growing team on a range of knowledge management projects across different science and industry domains. Example projects you may be involved in include: Developing ontologies to support automation in advanced manufacturing. Creating data structures and storage architecture for advanced materials. Defining data quality metrics for medical data sets used to train machine learning systems. Building information models to represent scientific experiments. Identifying, designing, and implementing improved research data processing: automating manual data capture, optimizing data delivery, redesigning infrastructure for greater scalability, etc. The ~30 people strong NPL Data Science Team is spread across three geographical locations: Teddington, Cambridge, and Glasgow. Due to COVID-19, the entire team is currently working remotely. We are currently looking to hire in both

Glasgow

and

Teddington , but travel between the three sites will be required on occasions. Please note that although we can accommodate flexible working, this is not a fully remote role.
