Tuesday 11 February 2025 Public Protection Service - Empowering Safe and Resilient Communities

We have an exciting opportunity for a Dog Control and Animal Health Officer to join our Public Protection Service in the Consumer Protection Team! Our Public Protection Service sits within our large unitary authority, bringing together food and health and safety, trading standards, animal health, environmental protection, licensing, ASB and pest control. We are passionate about our community and take pride in our work whilst encouraging a culture that puts our customers at the heart of everything we do. As a Dog Control and Animal Health Officer, you will lead on providing an effective dog control service for the County as well as the establishment and enforcement of provisions related to animal health issues including Public Space Protection Orders and animal licensing functions. Other responsibilities will include undertaking timely, effective investigations and solution-focused problem solving in relation to enforcement, responsible ownership, and the welfare of dogs. This role does require some working outside of core hours when necessary for specific duties including stray dog collection, which is covered across the team on a rota basis. Our ideal candidate will have experience working in an animal-related environment with a sound understanding of animal behaviour and welfare. You should have an excellent understanding of legislation relating to dogs and the operational processes. Experience with research and presenting outcomes in verbal and written formats will be essential. This role will require you to drive as part of the day-to-day duties of the role, so a full UK driving license is required. Why us?

Wiltshire Council is a friendly, welcoming place to work, with a 'One Council' ethos. That's why we focus on getting the things that matter to our people right.
