Mental Health Nurses at The Meadows, West Park Hospital. The Meadows is a single storey building in the grounds of the Noble Park housing development in the former West Park Hospital site in Epsom. This is a 24/7 hospital service with 24 beds available for the care of people aged over 65 years who have dementia or organic mental ill-health (i.e. decreased function due to medical or physical disease, rather than a psychiatric illness). There are three single sex wards, each with eight beds: One ward is for people with mental ill-health (functional, e.g. bipolar or depression) Two wards are for people with dementia. We are a multidisciplinary team including occupational therapists and psychology support. Main duties of the job

Job Overview The post holder will be a core member of the multi-disciplinary team, participating in the provision of ongoing assessments, care planning, treatment and support of people with serious and enduring mental health problems and people in crisis. He/she will particularly ensure access to and availability of mental health nursing skills to users of mental health services and their families. About us

To assess, plan, implement and evaluate the nursing care needs of a specific group of service users. To supervise, mentor and teach qualified and unqualified staff including students. To co-ordinate the patient environment on a shift by shift basis. To co-ordinate care for a specified group of service users. To lead the clinical management of designated service users, in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care. To ensure the junior staff and students are actively engaged in patient activity. To observe, report and record changes in the service user's physical, mental health and behaviour. To work with the MDT in planning and delivering care. To maintain working knowledge of legislation, policy and guidance pertaining to mental health and learning disabilities. To identify, provide and supervise the necessary physical care to service users to help those complete daily living activities i.e. personal hygiene, diet and fluid intake, clothing and laundry, manual handling, personal environment, manual handling, elimination, maintaining rest and sleep and activity, physical observations. Education and Registration

NMC Registration as RMN or RGN. Experience

Evidence of Team working. Evidence of IT Skills. Evidence of good Communication Skills. 6 months post qualification experience, but preceptorship may be available for newly qualified nurses. Disclosure and Barring Service Check

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions. Salary: £31,469 to £38,308 a year including 5% High Cost Area Supplement.
