Applications are invited for a Consultant in Orthodontics. This is a substantive appointment based at Lister Hospital in Stevenage. The post comprises 10 programmed activities (PAs). The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS), Orthodontics and Restorative Dentistry is seeking a consultant to join a dynamic, enthusiastic and forward-thinking team. The department is currently involved in many exciting initiatives and is looking for an individual with appropriate skills to complement this team and help keep the service at the forefront of clinical and academic excellence. The department benefits from close surgical and restorative collaborative care providing an ideal setting for the development of integrated Orthodontics. There will be an opportunity for building links with teaching departments and expand training locally. Main duties of the job

The post holder will be expected to show drive and initiative towards patient care, putting the patient first. They should demonstrate a high level of knowledge and expertise in the field of Orthodontics, including management of cleft lip and palate, hypodontia, and orthognathic patients using dental implants. The appointee will play a key role in the management of patient referrals to the department, with emphasis on multidisciplinary treatment of patients, and will participate in the teaching programs of the department. Qualification/Training

Entry on GDC Specialist Register or be within 6 months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at the time of interview, or provide GDC confirmed eligibility for entry on the Specialist Register BDS or equivalent Completion of CCT in orthodontics or equivalent and entry on the GDC specialist list for orthodontics Successful completion of an SAC approved 2 year in a Fixed Term Training Appointment (FTTA)/Post-CCST training appointment, or within 6 months of completion or equivalent for other European Economic Area National Previous Experience

Broad range of experience in Orthodontics Ability to manage complex orthodontic problems Experience supervising undergraduates, doctors in training, and other colleagues Ability to offer and be accountable for full and independent expert diagnostic opinion Evidence of leading on patient safety issues and achieving a change in practice Published papers and original work in peer-reviewed journals Demonstrated understanding of the basic principles of audit, evidence-based practice, and clinical quality improvement initiatives Demonstrable experience and participation in research Skills

Able to evidence engagement with clinical governance and the identification of errors and learning from errors Evidence engagement with appraisal and revalidation Able to show situational awareness and application of good decision-making Ability to effectively teach clinical skills Ability to critically appraise published evidence Knowledge

Demonstrate understanding of basic principles of audit, evidence-based practice, and clinical quality improvement initiatives Comprehensive knowledge and insight regarding all the domains within the GMC standards of Good Medical Practice Other Requirements
