An exciting opportunity exists for a Clinical Lead Orthotist, to join the Orthotics department at Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Trust set within Arrowe Park and Clatterbridge Hospitals.

We are looking for an Orthotist with experience in the NHS in both in and outpatients. Experience of developing others is essential. This is a friendly, dynamic orthotic team and a great opportunity to work in an acute hospital setting. The successful candidate will have dedicated CPD time as well as working closely with more experienced team members to enhance knowledge and develop clinical skills.

This is a varied clinical role with inpatient and outpatient clinics and covers a range of areas including: orthopaedic foot and ankle, diabetic foot, neurology, paediatric and traumatic spinal injury. The team at WUTH works closely with their medical and AHP colleagues.

The successful candidate will join a team of 4 Orthotists and have access to an on-site workshop, the use of digital workflow and will be encouraged to explore innovative technology. It is a team where clinicians are encouraged to be actively involved in their own development and the improvement of the department.

Main duties of the job Responsibility for the delivery of Orthotic Clinical care to patient caseload of all diverse needs, for outpatient and inpatient services. This includes patient assessment and advice, implementing treatment plans to facilitate patient goals. On-going monitoring and audit of treatment provided. To provide a clinical lead in Orthotics and the appliance department within WUTH. Providing support, advice and training as required to Trust employees. Responsible for the safe provision of Orthotic devices and in-depth knowledge of bespoke orthoses and the material tolerances in relation to the clinical need of the patient. To provide orthotic treatment and where necessary, liaise with healthcare professionals to ensure clinical continuity. Responsible for ensuring in conjunction with stakeholders that the orthotic devices provided for patient use, both bespoke and stock items, meet previously agreed clinical, health and safety quality standards and provide best value orthotic clinical care. Responsible for accurate and timely recording of all patient contacts ensuring WUHT policy on confidentiality is maintained. Responsible for ensuring patients receive best practice at all times and patients are shown illustrations of treatment, and choice, that meets their clinical need, as appropriate to ensure patient engagement with the agreed treatment plan. The post holder must ensure treatment is offered in a timely, cost-effective manner.

Person Specification Qualifications, Specific Experience & Training Essential BSc (Hons) in Prosthetics and Orthotics Registration as an Orthotist with HCPC Evidence of ongoing CPD

Desirable Registration of BAPO Prior experience supervising Orthotists including appraisals, absence leave, rotas etc.

Knowledge and Skills Essential Experience in treating both inpatients and outpatients

Knowledge and Skills Essential Extensive knowledge in all areas of Orthotics Knowledge of Orthotic, stock products and bespoke manufacture. Excellent casting skills.

Qualifications, Specific Experience & Training Essential Involvement in non-clinical projects such as audits, developing departmental patient and staff information leaflets.

Personal Attributes Essential Ability to work unsupervised. Ability to work as part of a team. Commitment to professionalism. Able to demonstrate a willingness to work flexibly and manage change. Self-motivated. Excellent time management. Excellent communication skills. Excellent clinical note keeping.
