The role is of a Senior Health Care Assistant working alongside and supporting the pre-operative assessment practitioners in ensuring patients receive the optimum care in ensuring that the patients are fully optimised prior to surgery. The role will involve ensuring that the department is clean and tidy along with some administrative and other duties as requested by the senior team. The primary role is that of performing venepuncture, ECG MRSA screening with the collection of urine samples. You will also be expected to support the surgical wards in the division in ensuring any blood samples which have been requested are taken in a timely manner which both supports the elective surgical pathway and patient flow within the division. Main duties of the job

Following the completion of appropriate training and assessment and under the direction of a Registered Healthcare Professional undertake: Urine testing / urine analysis ECG recording Glucose monitoring Wound care using ANTT Venepuncture as per Trust policy, reporting results to the Registered Healthcare Professional on duty. Chaperone the patient as required ensuring appropriate support. Job responsibilities

Work within the Pre-Operative Assessment setting and the Surgical Wards footprint, providing high quality, caring, compassionate and personal care to patients and their families/carers. Work under the direction of the Registered Healthcare professionals and senior colleagues, both independently and as part of the multi-disciplinary team. Under the direction of a Registered Health Care Professional ensure a high standard of service provision within Pre-Op Assessment, by practicing effective clinical and administrative investigations and ICP preparation, effective communication and care delivery, prioritising workload appropriately and contributing to service improvements. Developing competencies that safeguard practice and effectiveness in the role. Act at all times in a manner, which illustrates respect for privacy, dignity, equality, diversity and confidentiality. Exhibit professional behaviour and attitude at all times and demonstrate excellent customer care skills. Contribute to effective team working by being fully involved, committed and participating, to achieving own and others full potential. If successful this vacancy will require an enhanced DBS check at a cost of £54.50. This cost will be deducted from your first Trust salary. In addition to this, it will be a condition of your employment that you will join the DBS update service and pay the annual subscription fee of £16. Person Specification

Education and Qualifications

Completed the National Care Certificate, or must complete it within 3 months. Functional Skills Minimum Level 2 Maths and English or GCSE equivalent or working towards. Working towards or prepared to work towards obtaining a level 3 Apprenticeship in Clinical Healthcare. Knowledge

Awareness and understanding of the importance of confidentiality. Knowledge of Infection Control and Safeguarding processes. Knowledge of the NHS Healthcare setting. Experience

Working in a healthcare setting. Experience of caring for patients. Experience of working at band 3 as a HCA or equivalent. Experience of working in an NHS outpatient or pre-operative setting. Skills

Ability to work as a team. Good communication skills (both written and verbal). Certified training and possession of venepuncture ECG and vital signs competence. Evidence of completion of care certificate. Ability to demonstrate a caring and friendly, open, empathetic and compassionate demeanour. Work related circumstances

Occupational Health Clearance. Able to meet the flexible needs of the role and duty roster. Disclosure and Barring Service Check

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions. Pre-Operative Assessment Service Manager £24,071 to £25,674 a year pro rata per annum.
