An exciting opportunity has arisen for a health care assistant on the neonatal unit. You will work under the supervision of a trained nurse and will be supported in your role as a HCA. You will work as part of a team with the Multidisciplinary team within Neonatal and Maternity services to ensure high standards of quality care provision on the Neonatal Unit. You will provide nursing care to infants, operate medical devices required for the care of the infants, assess the infant's condition, perform vital signs observations, document and report findings, and implement changes in care as instructed. You will perform the following clinical procedures: Monitor infants' vital signs with appropriate devices. Collect samples of urine, stool, blood, and skin swabs according to local practice. Perform blood sugar monitoring according to local practice. Support to insert, use, and remove gastric feeding tubes as required. Initiate basic life support when necessary. Provide holistic support to the infant and their family (i.e., nutritional/elimination needs, hygiene). Support the mother's choice of feeding (e.g., breast/bottle). The Neonatal Unit at The Princess Royal Hospital is a NNU and consists of 22 cots (2 ITU, 4 HDU, and 16 SC). We are part of the West Midlands Operational Delivery Network. We embrace family-centered care involving parents in all aspects of their baby's care and are proud of the services we deliver. We have a dedicated community team who follows the baby's journey from discharge to help parents and family within the community. We have achieved stage 1 BFI accreditation and are currently working towards achieving stage 2.
