An amazing opportunity has arisen to join the Sensory Processing Service as an Associate Occupational Therapy Assistant (APOT), supporting the Occupational Therapists and Sensory Integration Practitioners who provide sensory processing advice/support and assessments with children and young people within Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire. This role is for an experienced individual who has a passion for working with children, young people, and their families and has a good knowledge and understanding of sensory processing differences, Neurodiversity, and the role of Occupational Therapy. This post will provide the opportunity to develop your career. The Sensory Processing Service is an innovative service. You will be joining an enthusiastic team who work closely with other services to meet the needs of children and young people between the age of 0-18 years old with Sensory Processing differences that are having an impact on their daily lives. This is an exciting time to come and join the service and be a part of further shaping its direction. Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will support the sensory integration therapists in all aspects of their work and in addition to this, they will have their own responsibilities to provide advice and support to children and young people and their families. They will undertake triages and provide intervention as directed by members of the team with service users both in a clinic setting, telehealth platform or telephone. There will be an Induction, training, and the opportunity to develop and expand on your existing skills and knowledge. The successful candidates will have regular supervision. The APOT is a pivotal role within the service and the successful candidate will need to have the skills and knowledge and is instrumental in the success of the service. The role works closely with the Therapy Assistants in the service. The sensory processing service works collaboratively with Education, Social Care and other providers within the area and the wider community, as appropriate. The service works across a variety of settings relevant to the role including clinics, mainstream and special schools within Hull and East Riding. The APOT will be involved in the delivery of the training and workshop packages and any service development initiatives with stakeholders. The ability to commute within the Trust’s geographical area, with access to an appropriate means of transport is essential. A good understanding of relevant policy, legislation drivers and their application to clinical and service area, e.g. The Children's Act, Safeguarding Advanced IT skills Knowledge of working in clinical area Knowledge of preparing plans Knowledge of Occupational Therapy Experience
Demonstrable knowledge/experience of working within children's service and clinical practice areas Experience of working in health care setting relevant to position Experience and knowledge of occupational therapy assessment Qualifications
NVQ III in health or social care or other equivalent relevant qualification/experience plus significant knowledge skills development to diploma equivalent level Skills
Effective communication, interpersonal, organisational and clinical skills Evidence of engagement with children and families with complex needs Motivated and ability to work without direct supervision, prioritising own workload and using own initiative Understanding the limit of the job role and responsibilities Able to work as effective and flexible member of a team Ability to effectively communicate to a range of professionals and patients/carers Ability to work flexibly to respond to specific service need This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service.
