The Clinical Director plays a critical leadership role within Psychiatry UK, focusing on the quality and safety of clinical services. This position is integral to ensuring compliance with clinical governance and performance standards, driving service development and transformation initiatives, and overseeing clinical operational matters. The Clinical Director will engage in quality governance activities, manage clinical leads, and address performance concerns, all while fostering an environment of innovation and continuous improvement. The post holder will allocate their time equally among quality governance, leadership responsibilities, and clinical operational oversight to ensure a balanced approach to service delivery. Role Outline

Quality and Safety Oversight:

Lead and oversee the delivery of clinical services, ensuring compliance with quality and safety standards. Chair Governance Meetings:

Chair service quality and safety meetings to review clinical performance, address findings, and integrate lessons learned into practice. Clinical Leadership:

Provide line management for clinical leads, ensuring they have the resources and support necessary for effective service delivery. Clinical Operational Oversight:

Oversee the operational aspects of clinical services, ensuring alignment with organisational objectives and effective patient care pathways. Service Development and Transformation:

Drive initiatives that promote innovation and improve service delivery, collaborating with clinical leads and external stakeholders. Performance Management:

Oversee the management of performance concerns related to clinicians within their services, implementing necessary improvements and interventions. Recruitment:

Oversee the recruitment and clinical induction of doctors into the services. Clinical Capacity:

Work with the clinical leads to increase the clinical capacity of the services. Engagement and Collaboration:

Foster relationships with clinical staff and external partners to enhance service delivery and advocate for patient needs. Person Specification

Essential Areas: Medical Degree level qualification (MBBS or equivalent) and postgraduate qualifications (MRCPsych or equivalent). Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice. Included in the GMC Specialist Register. Significant experience in a strategic leadership role within mental health services or a similar complex organisation. Management qualification or equivalent level of experience at a leadership level. Desirable Areas: Experience in medical education and/or research related to mental health. Evidence of scientific publications and presentations at conferences or seminars. Knowledge & Skills Specification

In-depth understanding of the health service, NHS operations, and the regulatory framework for healthcare services. Knowledge of clinical quality assurance, quality improvement, and evidence-based clinical practice. Understanding of the social and political environment, including local authorities and social services. Strategic thinker with proven leadership capabilities in driving service transformation and quality governance. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to engage with media and stakeholders effectively. Strong interpersonal, motivational, and influencing skills to foster teamwork and staff engagement. Ability to respond effectively to unforeseen circumstances and manage complex situations. Proficient presentation skills, both oral and written, with the ability to convey complex clinical information clearly. Practical negotiation skills with realistic expectations of outcomes in performance management. Computer literate and proficient in MS Office applications, with the ability to design, develop, interpret, and implement policies. High standards of professional integrity and probity in all dealings. High-level understanding of epidemiology, statistics, health economics, and healthcare evaluation in mental health services. Strong analytical skills, adept in utilising qualitative and quantitative data for performance improvement. Experience in project management, staff development, and change facilitation within clinical settings. Budget management skills related to service delivery and improvement initiatives.
