Job Title: Mobile and Web Developer Reports To: CTO/Application Development Manager Location: Hybrid requiring 3 days per week in our Newcastle office Job Type: Permanent and Full-Time Summary: As a Mobile and Web Developer you will have responsibility for designing, developing, and maintaining all parts of our mobile and website estate. This will involve working closely with other members of the IT department, internal stakeholders, and 3rd parties to deliver solutions to meet our evolving business needs and ongoing successful operations. Responsibilities: Develop and maintain mobile applications for iOS and Android platforms using React Native. Design, develop and maintain front-end and back-end components of EMG web sites using PHP, and Laravel / Filament frameworks. Design and implement responsive user-friendly interfaces and experiences using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript frameworks. Implement and optimise database and queries for performance, scalability and security. Integrate EMG and 3rd party APIs/services to enhance functionality and user experience. Deploy and manage applications on AWS, ensuring high availability and reliability. Monitor application performance and troubleshoot issues as needed. Ensure security best practices are adhered and regular reviews are performed. Line manage Web Developer, providing guidance, support and personal development opportunities. Lead technical discussions within the Mobile and Web workstream, ensuring alignment with agreed technical principals, business goals and best practices. Work closely with cross-functional teams to gather requirements, define project scope, and deliver solutions on time. Stay update on emerging technologies and best practices in web development, AWS services and cloud computing. Contribute to code reviews, documentation, and knowledge sharing within the team. Skills and Experience: Ideally degree educated in a Computer Science, Engineering or a related field, or equivalent work experience. Proven experience developing mobile and web solutions. Demonstrable experience building mobile applications for the Android and/or iOS platforms using React Native. Strong understanding of front-end technologies including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and modern frameworks (e.g. React/Next.js, Vue.js, Laravel). Good knowledge of PHP, MySQL, RESTful API development. Experience of integrating with other corporate systems would be of benefit. Experience of integrating analytics to give insights and performance data using UTM, Google Analytics and Tag Manager would be of benefit. Experience with content management systems (WordPress). Knowledge of web accessibility standards and best practices. Understanding of responsive design principles and standards. Experience with AWS services (EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, and CloudFront). Experience with version control such as GIT and CI/CD. Solid understanding of software development lifecycle and agile methodologies. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, and attention to detail. Ability to work independently and as part of a team collaboratively in a dynamic environment. Demonstrable ability to prioritise tasks and work effectively in a fast-paced environment. Proven leadership skills including developing/mentoring others. Good communication and interpersonal skills.
