The maternity team at CDDFT are searching for committed, dynamic, and enthusiastic bank midwives to join our team working on our maternity units at both our Darlington and Durham sites. You will join a warm and supportive team of midwives who truly care about the women's experience.

We welcome applications from experienced band 6 midwives who are currently registered to work in the UK. We are also eager to hear from band 5 midwives who are completing their preceptorship and planning their future careers.

We are seeking midwives who are enthusiastic and committed to working in collaboration with women, their families, and multi-disciplinary teams, supporting personalised choice and promoting exemplary care in line with national transformation ambitions and local Trust Values.

Main duties of the job

There is significant emphasis on multi-disciplinary working, and the ability to work as an individual as well as a team member is essential. You will be responsible for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of individualised care plans which ensure delivery of holistic, research-based care, prioritising communication, informed consent, and relationship building. You will work closely with our multi-disciplinary team of professionals.

Some of your daily duties will be:

Assessing and advising on the needs of women, birthing people, partners, families, and carers and providing emotional support during all stages of pregnancy and postnatal care Planning, delivering, and evaluating standards of evidence-based midwifery care Identifying and caring for women with more complex pregnancies Providing interventions and key messages around Public Health including infant feeding Recognising deterioration in the physical or mental condition of a patient and taking appropriate action/escalation and managing emergencies

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield, and Weardale, as well as over 80 other community-based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

Job responsibilities

We are looking for experienced Midwives who are currently registered to practice within the UK and are interested in joining our teams as bank staff. The role is usually based within the labour ward, antenatal, and postnatal ward settings, but we are keen to hear from midwives confident working in the assessment unit setting. We have regular shifts available across our trust at both Darlington Memorial Hospital and The University Hospital of North Durham.

In return, we can offer a bespoke training and development programme whilst also recognising the value of prior learning in your speciality.

We are really excited about the opportunity to invite experienced midwives to apply to join our Bank Teams to help deliver outstanding Intrapartum, Antenatal, and Postnatal Care to the mothers and families in our area. This includes working within the UNICEF framework for Infant Feeding and close working relationships with our Screening Team to deliver all elements of the National Screening programme.

You will be well supported by members of our specialist Practice Development Team who will ensure your support as you transition to your new role both professionally and personally. As a new to CDDFT Midwife, you will be offered an induction and training programme and access to our specialist team of practice development midwives and supervisors who will continue to support you as you adjust to your new role.
