The post holder will actively contribute to the delivery of the Anaesthetics service within the directorate and participate in the out of hours rota, maintaining a high standard of care. The successful candidate may be required to work across all 3 sites. The post holder will be expected to play a full part in complying with all aspects of clinical governance.

Main duties of the job The clinical duties will include those duties normally expected of a specialty doctor in a similar sized Trust. The appointees will have completed a minimum of 5 years Specialty training in Anaesthetics or equivalent with relevant experience and competencies. Full GMC registration is essential and evidence of further experience and training in Obstetric Anaesthesia is desirable.

About us The Royal Albert Edward Infirmary (Wigan Infirmary) provides in-patient acute beds for Medicine, Paediatrics, ENT, General Surgery, Gynaecology, Trauma, Pelvic Trauma, Breast Surgery and Urology. In addition, the Obstetric Unit is based here and there is an Accident and Emergency Department which also functions as a Trauma Unit. Wrightington Hospital is where most of the elective Orthopaedic Surgery is performed, as well as accommodating the Rheumatology service. This is a Tertiary referral Orthopaedic centre of Excellence, attracting Anaesthetic trainees with an interest in Regional Anaesthesia. Leigh Infirmary functions as a Day Case Unit and a Diagnostic and Treatment Centre - The Hanover. The Trust serves a population of 320,000 on the western edge of the Greater Manchester conurbation. The Borough is bordered by the M6, M61 and M62 motorways as well as the main west coast rail line, providing excellent access to the Pennines, Lake District, and North West coastline.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential Full registration with the GMC with a Licence to practice Desirable Final FRCA or equivalent Skills Essential Ability to communicate and liaise effectively with patients and their relatives, and with colleagues in all disciplines Aptitude for practical skills necessary for anaesthesia Ability to apply sound clinical knowledge and judgement Desirable FRCA level or actively approaching this Evidence of relevant CME/CEPD from previous two years (eg from training programmes or appraisal) Evidence of interest and experience in teaching trainees in anaesthesia and other specialties, nurses and professions allied to medicine Knowledge Essential At least five years postgraduate experience in specialty training in Anaesthetics or equivalent Including 2 years General Anaesthetic Specialty Training via a formal training programme or equivalent General medical experience equivalent to UK Foundation Training Desirable Experience of Anaesthetics in the UK An understanding of evidence-based medicine Other relevant certified courses eg. ALS, ATLS Additional Essential Computer skills, eg word processing, database use Desirable Membership of professional societies
