An exciting opportunity has arisen with NHS Western Isles, to join the Public Health Directorate as a Health Protection and Screening Clinical Specialist. You will join an established and experienced public health team, and participate in a range of professional activities and projects to improve and protect the health of the population in the Western Isles.
You will be responsible for handling health protection enquiries and situations both during working hours, and out of hours by supporting the on-call rotation. The on-call element is typically undertaken from home. You will give advice on the management of communicable disease cases and environmental hazards in a range of settings, working with clinical and non-clinical colleagues internally and in partner organisations. You will also contribute to the development and oversight of screening and immunisation programmes in the Western Isles, and work with a range of stakeholders to maximise the uptake of screening and immunisations. You will line manage two staff within the smoking cessation service, which sits within the Public Health Directorate. Full training on the systems and processes required will be provided at induction. The post is based at the Western Isles Health Board Office in Stornoway, although occasional travel to other sites may be required.
The successful applicant will be required to register with the PVG Scheme (Protecting Vulnerable Groups Scheme).
