As a Medical Laboratory Assistant in our Haematology and Blood Transfusion laboratories, you’ll be part of a progressive organisation that values excellence, innovation and teamwork.

You’ll contribute to a 24/7 acute and urgent service at our Watford laboratory, as well as a Monday to Friday non-urgent service at our Hemel Hempstead laboratory. Flexibility is essential, as the role includes weekend work to meet the needs of this vital service.

This role is based at Hemel Hempstead Hospital and Watford General Hospital. The successful candidate will be required to work across both sites, covering shifts within the service hours of 08:00 to 20:00 from Monday to Friday and 09:00 to 17:30 on weekends at Watford General Hospital.

The post holder will work closely with the Biomedical Scientists to ensure adherence to all policies and procedures relevant to the role. This includes the Blood Transfusion Policy, the Massive Blood Loss Policy, the Infection Control Policy, and the departmental Health & Safety Policy.

Compliance with the departmental Standard Operating Procedures is essential. The role also involves liaising with the Haematology Laboratory Manager, Training and Quality Leads, as well as Clinical and Nursing staff, to ensure seamless integration with the services provided by the team.

The department is currently going through a management of change (MoC) process. As a result, candidates should be prepared to work shifts and/or to work from a different site(s) in the future. Full details shall be provided at interview.
