An exciting opportunity has arisen to work as an

Electrical Engineer specialising in Motor Design

within Rolls-Royce Submarines. Working within the Technology department, you will support the capability to design and develop motors, particularly at the component, subsystem, and system level; to bring these designs to fruition and demonstrate conformance of the design to application requirements and standards.

Particular areas of focus will include the E-magnetic circuit, heat transfer and flow analysis, Electro-mechanical & thermomechanical coupling, and machine-inverter interaction.

What you'll be doing:

You will design and simulate induction electric motors (from a high-level sizing perspective through to detailed prediction of performance and efficiency) and help bring them to manufacture.

Demonstrate a creative attitude, find new solutions, and investigate current and novel technologies and their application. Support commercial, procurement, and the supply chain with technical specifications and supplier liaison. Understand and further optimise our in-house motor designs and develop our performance predicted models. Develop verification and validation tests to compare experimental and simulation results. Understand requirements capture processes.

Who we are looking for:

At Rolls-Royce, we embrace agility, are bold, pursue collaboration, and seek simplicity in everything we do. These principles form our values and behaviours and are essential qualities that we seek for all roles. Bachelor's degree, Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering or regional equivalent qualification or equivalent technical capability based on practical knowledge and experience. Experience relevant to the power electronics discipline; e.g., Finite element modelling experience in electro-magnetic and mechanical tools. Experience engaging with suppliers and/or manufacturing from a design engineering perspective. Ability to write technical reports. Ability to work in an agile, cross-functional team. Ability to solve problems with simple solutions. Awareness of DFMEA, FTA, and other design analysis processes.

To work for Rolls-Royce Submarines, you need to hold a Security Check (SC) clearance without any caveats to that clearance. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if you don't currently have this in place. Due to the nature of work the business conducts and the protection of certain assets, you must hold UK nationality. Any dual nationals will require additional scrutiny and background checks prior to commencing work with RRSL.
