NES Fircroft are recruiting a Project Engineer (Mechanical bias) on behalf of our client, based at the Newton Aycliffe site. This is a long-term contract position, Outside IR35.

Our client is a leading European chemical producer. With an annual turnover of in excess of €3 billion, our client has circa 4,200 employees and manufacturing, sales and marketing operations in 8 countries across Europe.

Our client’s portfolio consists of an extensive range of class-leading products arranged across general Purpose Vinyls; Speciality Vinyls; Organic Chlorine Derivatives; Chlor Alkali; Sulphur Chemicals; Salt; and Electrochemical and Vinyls Technologies. Our client’s annual commercial production volume is circa 10 million tonnes.

Role Overview: The Project Engineer will strive to meet the project goals of the operating plants during expansions and modifications. To ensure that support is given to ensure that projects are successfully commissioned and handed over to the plants. Mechanical bias but understanding of Civil, Structural, Mechanical and Piping disciplines.

Required Experience: Interpretation of Process Specifications to deliver Civil, Structural, Mechanical and Piping (C.S.M.P) design and configurations, including preparation of technical specifications for plant and equipment and issue of appropriate enquiry documentation for these and associated construction services. Evaluate tenders and oversee all C.S.M.P designs and arrangements, determining optimal solution based on technical, cost and programme considerations. Prepare project cost estimates and programmes and ensure project completion in line with agreed timescales and budget; control and maintain associated documentation in line with legislation requirements (PED). Provide strong SHE leadership during any design and construction activities ensuring compliance with the company 20 SHE principles and lifesaving rules. Play an active role in any project SHE Studies and construction risk assessments. Act as Client, Principal Designer and Principal Contractor under the CDM Regulations. Manage the interface between contractors and site operations team to ensure safe and effective construction activities. Provide technical support to the Maintenance Group and support during project commissioning activities. Required Experience/Qualifications:

Degree in Engineering discipline (preferably mechanical); Chartered Engineer or working towards; Several years' relevant experience within chemical or petrochemical industries, preferably in a COMAH regulated environment; A detailed knowledge of role related safety and environmental requirements and in-depth knowledge of mechanical engineering standards including relevant legislation; Demonstrate good project management skills for design and construction work; Strong engineering skills to interpret Process Specifications and transmit detailed information: Competent to oversee detailed design work covering described disciplines and management of construction work; Good understanding of budgets and budget control. Commercial awareness. Knowledge of SAP systems an advantage.
