Job summary

We are looking for a passionate and experienced Physiotherapist or Occupational Therapist to shape the development of our Therapy Team at Newhaven Rehabilitation Centre. Newhaven is a standalone Rehabilitation Centre with 34 beds aimed at facilitating independence, recovery and rehabilitation to patients who no longer require care in the acute setting.

As a Clinical Specialist for Rehabilitation at Newhaven you will provide expert knowledge to your own caseload of patients with complex needs and will also be responsible for the clinical development of staff and pathways for patients.

You will act as a resource for specialist advice to the rest of the Therapies Directorate as well as within wider Trust multidisciplinary services.

This role will be critical in reviewing the effectiveness of service delivery and introducing where appropriate new ways of working to ensure that services deliver the expected standards of safety, quality and outcomes for all our patients.

Main duties of the job

The post holder, whether an Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist will be responsible for leading, developing and supporting all therapy staff within the Newhaven Rehabilitation Team, leading on service improvements and relevant initiatives.

To manage a complex caseload using advanced clinical reasoning, critical thinking, reflection and analysis to support assessments using a client centred approach. To act as a specialist advisor to the Newhaven Rehabilitation team regarding Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy services and roles. To lead a team of both Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists, providing leadership for senior and junior staff and Therapy Assistants through supervision, appraisals and performance management. To act as a clinical source of expertise and advice being actively involved in leading on Clinical Governance and Quality Assurance for the Newhaven Rehabilitation team. To be responsible for the maintenance and development of your own CPD identifying and contributing to the evidence base of Occupational Therapy /Physiotherapy in Rehabilitation for frailty and older people. To act as a supervisor and educator for Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and students. To lead on development and change management of the Newhaven Rehabilitation service. About us

To demonstrate expert ability to clearly communicate complex and sensitive information to patients, carers, and other staff. To maintain close links and work collaboratively with all staff and people involved in patient care, student education, research or policy development and always promote good working relationships. To contribute to the business planning process, formulating cases of need and submitting bids for procurement of additional resources based on evaluation, research, quotations and established contracts. To be responsible for maintenance of an accurate and evaluative record keeping system in the therapy notes. To demonstrate, analysis and clinical reasoning in the provision of patient care for own clinical caseload and to be responsible for ensuring that senior, junior and student therapists maintain the department and registered body standard. To assist the Clinical Team Lead Physiotherapist and Occupational Therapist in overseeing the application of clinical governance, including the implementation of clinical risk, clinical audit and evidence-based practice. To optimise the effective and efficient use of clinical and organisational skills and resources to ensure that your service is highly responsive to clinical and local service priorities and needs. As a line manager to have responsibility for the daily operational management, supervision and co-ordination of the Newhaven Rehabilitation Therapy team including staff appraisal, performance management, informal grievance, and disciplinary actions. To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable, as an autonomous practitioner, for all aspects of your own work including the management of patients in your care. Professional Registration

Essential

Diploma or Degree in Occupational Therapy or Physiotherapy including HCPC Registration. Masters level or equivalent training in specialist area or evidence of significant practical experience, research or publication in specialist area. Experience/ Qualification

Essential

Proven leadership skills in managing and developing teams. Clinical specialist/team leader level within the speciality of Rehabilitation of older people. Experience of leading a change project in clinical area. Involvement in carrying out clinical audit and research including the coordination and evaluation of, and the use of findings to make service developments. Experience of leading a multi-professional team. Experience of supervising less experienced staff and students. Desirable

Highly developed organisational and clinical leadership skills alongside MDT colleagues. Ability to work autonomously, acting decisively on behalf of self and others, setting own priorities. High level of clinical skill in speciality area and ability to teach those skills (to own and other professions). People Management and Development

Able to strategically plan and develop the speciality area within national service frameworks and NICE guidelines. Ability in giving presentations to therapy colleagues and to audiences of mixed professional backgrounds. Desirable
