The team plays a major role in the quality assurance of the ACA (chartered accountant) qualification. We do this by conducting over 1,000 visits a year to firms, businesses and public sector organisations to ensure that the typically three years of supervised work experience that is needed as one of the key pillars of ACA qualification is gained within an environment that we have inspected, approved against our Training Standards and continue to monitor on a cyclical and risk basis. The team is also responsible for the awarding of the ‘audit qualification’ which is a status needed under the Companies Act 2006 if an individual wants to act as a company auditor within a registered firm. Our work requires us to balance a focus on regulatory standards with responsive customer care.

Overall purpose of this role

To lead the Training Employer Authorisation and Review team to ensure a first-class standard of quality assurance and client service, primarily in respect of approving organisations as Authorised Training Employers and awarding the Audit Qualification.

To lead and inspire a team of chartered accountants and support staff to meet targets and service level agreements and deliver excellent customer service.

To ensure a strong and positive relationship with FRC and other regulators, including supporting the transition from FRC to ARGA.

To be a role model and to foster continuous improvement in team performance.

To ensure the team delivers an effective, efficient and supportive programme of Authorised Training Employer/ Authorised Training Principal authorisation and review in conformity with the E&T regulations, the Training Standards and FRC expectations.

To ensure the Audit Qualification is awarded accurately and efficiently by the team.

To oversee, devise and modernise standards, policies, processes, systems and regulations regarding the above.

To ensure timely and insightful reporting of the team’s results.

To ensure the team processes and maintains accurate system records and answers client and colleague requests in conformity with service level expectations.

To ensure the team contributes to pan-E&T and ICAEW projects, such as revising the ACA, professional skills development, and system improvement.

To perform a share of the authorisation and review duties of a Training Manager.

To be an effective member of the Policy & Strategy management team.

Specific duties will vary from time to time in line with the business needs.
