Apply locations: Scotland Wide (Geog) Time type: Full time Posted on: Posted Yesterday Time left to apply: End Date: January 30, 2025 (12 days left to apply) Job requisition id: R9752 Together we are Trusted to Serve Scotland. Most people don’t think too much about how clean water reaches their taps. Or what happens to their waste water. But Scottish Water does. In fact, it’s all we think about. We are investing up to £1 billion annually in our capital programme to upgrade ageing assets and support our strategic ambitions. A key part of this is ensuring the effective and efficient commissioning and handover of assets as they are delivered to our operational teams. We’re looking for a Senior Engineer to join our Commissioning and Handover (C&H) Team, which plays a vital role in providing high quality, reliable commissioning and handover services to support the successful delivery of our capital investment programme. You’ll work closely with Scottish Water’s Delivery Partners, supply chain, and internal teams to provide project-level commissioning support and governance. You’ll also contribute to continuous improvement across the supply chain and advise on delivery strategies for our next investment period. What you’ll do
You’ll be responsible for assuring commissioning plans, performance testing, and supporting documentation to ensure reliability and compliance. This includes providing evidence and assurance throughout the commissioning process. You’ll be facilitating and managing operational impact assessments. You’ll engage with stakeholders, manage communications, monitor risks, support knowledge transfer and learning, and ensure resource and water supply requirements are effectively planned for. You’ll actively support the identification, management, and escalation of commissioning and handover risks, issues, and hazards. This includes overseeing key governance controls such as Asset Start-up and Water into Supply approvals, ensuring processes run smoothly and risks are effectively managed. You’ll provide feedback on commissioning performance data and residual risks will also be central to your role. You’ll contribute to commissioning and handover assurance to support the successful acceptance of assets into operational service. You’ll work closely with our Capital Delivery Partners, the Scottish Water Customer Service Delivery (CSD) Operations Teams, the Environment, Planning and Assurance (EPA), and other Scottish Water functions to ensure collaboration and success. What you’ll need
We’re looking for someone with a solid understanding of wastewater treatment processes. Candidates with significant experience in water treatment processes or control systems and telemetry will also be considered. You’ll need strong IT skills for handling specialist documentation and systems, along with problem-solving abilities to overcome commissioning challenges and drive improvements. Good judgement, decision-making, and the confidence to escalate issues when needed are essential. Excellent communication skills, the ability to self-manage and prioritise tasks effectively, and a commitment to continuous improvement are key. Strong relationship-building skills and a full UK driving license are also required. Experience with infrastructure asset operations, commissioning in a Scottish Water context, and Capital Investment practices would be an advantage. Looking out for you
While the work we do is important, we know it’s not the only thing that matters. That’s why we make sure you have everything you need to find a good work-life balance. You’ll get plenty of time to recharge with 38 days of holiday every year (including public holidays). And you can even buy five more if you need a little extra time. You can also take paid time off to volunteer in your community. When it comes to major life events we have family-friendly policies around adoption, maternity, and parental leave. And for the everyday? We embrace flexible working. For your future, there’s our pension (the ‘know-what-you’ll-get-when-you-retire’ kind), as well as life assurance. As for some nice extras? You can expect an annual company bonus. Not to mention access to SW Splash – handy rewards that can save you money on holidays, bills, and shopping. The not-so-small print
This role will be a Grade 7. If you’re new to Scottish Water, you’ll join us on a starting salary of £41,000. Performance-driven pay progression would then allow you to move through the range to a maximum of £51,970. If you’re interested in this role – or know someone else who might be - we’ll be accepting applications until midnight on 29th January. Job offers at Scottish Water are conditional, and will be confirmed on completion of our pre-employment screening, e.g., referencing, criminal record checks, license checks, etc. Screening is conducted on our behalf by a third party, and must be completed before your start date. Don’t worry - we’ll only start these checks once you’ve accepted an offer. A few final things worth knowing…
Research shows that some people avoid applying for jobs unless they can meet every single criteria. If you’re interested in this job, but don’t tick all the boxes, apply anyway! We hardly ever hire people who can do every part of a job from Day One. Everyone has a learning curve. So don’t rule yourself out! Let us know if there are any changes we can make to our recruitment process to help you perform at your best. Lots of our people have disabilities or neurodiverse conditions (including some of our recruiters!). We're also aware that some people might be experiencing temporary challenges because of life events, like menopause. We’re very used to making adjustments, so please don’t be afraid to ask. As part of our commitment to developing a flourishing Scotland, it’s important that all our employees are Scottish taxpayers. If you join us, your home address will need to be in Scotland. If you don’t already live here, you'll need to commit to moving here within your first three months. Finally (finally!), candidates who haven’t submitted an application in the last 12 months will have their records removed from our recruitment database. You won’t need to do anything. Your data will be automatically deleted.
