This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic RGN to develop their career in the Urology Department. We are seeking to appoint a Band 6 motivated nurse to work within the Urology Outpatient department.

The successful candidate will assist with the management of the department on a day-to-day basis by supporting and acting on behalf of the Manager.

You will ensure the provision of effective, efficient and appropriate high quality patient care.

Support the Band 7 in assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care needs and quality assurance.

Support the Band 7 in running the Urology outpatient department.

Main duties of the job

Successfully complete a locally approved orientation programme. Support a clinical environment that is patient and public focused. Provide expert clinical advice to team members, and act as a credible clinical expert. Communicate sensitive information to patients and families in relation to their medical condition, requiring persuasive and reassurance skills as some patients may have barriers to understanding. Assess and interpret acute and patient conditions, taking appropriate action. Recognise and manage acutely unwell and complex patients that may need referral to inpatient services. Assist and prepare for common invasive procedures:

Take bloods Perform bladder chemotherapy Teach patients to intermittently self-catheterise Prep and assist in biopsies and cystoscopies Perform complicated catheterisations Perform supra pubic catheter changes

Undertake nurse-led clinics. Identify abnormalities in diagnostic tests and blood results. Ensure the promotion and maintenance of health and prevention of illness.

Education and Training

Essential

NMC registration, Registered 1st Level Nurse, 1st Degree relevant to nursing. Supplemented by specialist clinical, managerial training, CPD to Post Graduate Diploma or equivalent demonstrable knowledge and experience.

Desirable

Experience of management (staff and resources). Teaching & assessing or equivalent. Evidence of continued professional development. ILS.

Experience

Essential

Relevant post-registration experience, including relevant experience at Band 5. Ability to assess, plan, implement & evaluate care. Able to meet patient's physical & psychological needs. Able to recognise situations detrimental to health. Able to maintain highest standards of care and produce documentation to highest standards.

Desirable

Aware of the process of effective change management.

Aptitude and abilities

Essential

Audit I.T. Skills and ability to be creative and innovative. Organised and methodical. A high level of written and verbal communication skills. Multidisciplinary working and ability to work in partnership with senior colleagues and part of a team. Ability to sensitively and appropriately influence others. An awareness of the need to focus on continuous quality improvement. An awareness of patient care pathways. Able to deal with aggressive patients/relatives/staff situations and possess skills to de-escalate. Willingness to develop autonomous and accountable practice.

Desirable

Ability to speak Welsh. Robust management of incident reporting and pro-active action planning. Understanding of Clinical Governance frameworks. Counselling skills.
