An exciting opportunity has risen for a highly motivated Pharmacy Technician to join our friendly Research Pharmacy Team at United Lincolnshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (ULTH). The post holder will be a part of the Pharmacy Department and the Research and Innovation team.

Our Pharmacy Department has a good integrated team of Clinical Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, and Pharmacy Support Workers.

The R&I department is a forward-looking department working in partnership with the University of Lincoln and Regional Research Delivery Network to support the delivery of clinical research.

The successful candidate will support clinical trials service with existing and upcoming new studies, in a variety of clinical specialties and play an important role in improving the health for patients.

You will need to apply your pharmacy knowledge, analytical eye, and practical experience to deliver safe investigational treatments to our patients. You must be keen to learn, able to interpret complex information, and communicate effectively. We would expect this role to develop you and for you to use the experience to develop others.

Significant experience in hospital pharmacy or clinical trials would be expected. Full training and support will be provided.

The post will be based at Lincoln County Hospital but the successful candidate will need to travel to other sites within the Trust.

Main duties of the job You will be involved in the set-up of new trial projects, whilst also supporting the delivery of existing trials. You will therefore be required to demonstrate good organisational skills, be able to work independently and as part of the wider team.

You will need to collaborate effectively with a wide range of Trust staff - local investigators, researchers, nursing, administrative, and pharmacy staff. You will also represent the team, the department, and the Trust when engaging with pharmaceutical companies and their partner organisations, so a professional nature is required.

Experience of writing standard operating procedures would be advantageous.

Attention to detail and a meticulous nature are prime requisites, for future therapies are determined by the accuracy of the data we collect today.

Lincolnshire Community Health Services NHS Trust (LCHS) and United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust (ULHT) have come together in a Group arrangement, with the goal of improving the care provided to patients across the county.

This will not constitute a formal merger of the two organisations, but will bring the Trusts together under a single Board and Executive Leadership Team, with the goal of improving the care that is provided to patients both in the community and in hospitals across Lincolnshire. Both Trusts will retain their separate statutory names and legal obligations.

The Group will be known as Lincolnshire Community and Hospitals NHS Group (LCHG).

Person Specification Qualifications (Academic, Professional & Vocational) Essential

Registered Technician (pending mandatory status) BTEC Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent. Professional Management qualification.

Desirable

NVQ assessor (A1/A2 award). Trust Human Resource qualifications

Previous Experience (Nature & Level) Essential

Experience working as a hospital pharmacy technician. Supervisory and training experience including acting as a DCT. Extensive knowledge and experience in the dispensing of clinical trials. Experience of clinical trials management.

Evidence of Particular: -Knowledge -Skills - Aptitudes Essential

Ability to lead and motivate staff. Accurate in work. Flexible approach. Ability to prioritise workload. Organisation and time management skills. Excellent written and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with a multidisciplinary team. Understanding of Trust/Departmental policies and procedures. Training skills. Computer literate, including the use of Microsoft Office. Ability to delegate. CPD. Teaching/Mentoring Certificate/skills.

Desirable

Understanding of clinical trial process. Understanding of Research Network. Understanding of ICP/GCP.

Specific Requirements Essential

Ability to work on own initiative. Ability to work under pressure. Ability to solve problems. Empathetic and approachable. Team player. Ability to attend meetings away from the Trust and evening meetings.
