About the team/division

Hiscox is one of the oldest Lloyd’s syndicates in the market focusing on providing specialist insurance to international clients. The claims team servicing this syndicate is recognised as one of the best in the London Market. The London Market Claims Team is a dynamic claims team based in London made up of claims underwriters who are empowered to think creatively, challenge the status quo and approach claims with a solution focused lens.

The Role The successful applicant for this role will be a Claims Underwriter in the London First Property Claims Team, predominantly handling, supervising and monitoring a busy portfolio of Property claims.

What you’ll be doing in the role

Adjust and manage, within authority, a portfolio of complex Property claims including Household, Commercial, Flood and Alternative risk binder authority as well as D&F/Openmarket claims; and to handle claims outside authority working closely with the Senior Claims Underwriters and Claims Manager.

Monitor and review key risk claims across the Property Claims Team and provide input to senior Claims Underwriters and Claims Manager.

Assist the Senior Claims Underwriter team in reporting key claims to the underwriting team and management.

Provide excellent service to brokers and insureds, providing prompt and effective claim resolution, within clearly defined authority limits.

Understand and fulfil Hiscox’s obligations under the Lloyd’s Claims Lead Arrangements.

Manage third party suppliers; for example lawyers and adjusters, ensuring they provide excellent service and fair outcomes for all our customers.

Identify and refer large or contentious claims appropriately, playing a full part in the overall claims function role of risk management and proper reserving.

Be part of working groups to deliver workstream results as set out by management.

Person Specification:

The Candidate

A deep technical expert with a proven track record of handling complex claims.

A confident communicator with demonstrable communication skills both oral and written.

A driven individual and effective team worker who is able to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Someone who can analyse complex issues but is also pragmatic, commercial and solution orientated.

Ability to prioritise work and work effectively and accurately under pressure, ensuring that deadlines are met.

Our must haves

Significant (minimum 5 years) experience working in the London Market (ideally within Property claims).

Confident in presenting claims scenarios/updates to internal and external stakeholders.

Experience of the US claims world, including a track record of guiding claims through litigation to a resolution.

Good mathematical skills (at least GCSE level or equivalent).

Nice to have

Educated to degree level or of graduate calibre.
