We are offering a permanent full-time opportunity for a

Lead Structural Engineer

to join our Regional Engineering team. This role is based in Townsville, with other regional centres in Queensland also considered.

As the Lead Structural Engineer, you will lead a specialist track and civil team, supporting the regional business by providing expert leadership, direction, and innovation. You will oversee the management and reliability of infrastructure assets, ensuring effective processes, investigative resources, and solutions to meet business needs across Queensland.

Key responsibilities will include:

Be accountable for the major operational and capital planning for structural assets for the Regional business unit which supports safety, reliability and operational improvement.

Lead the provision of expert structural engineering strategy development, advice, and recommendations for the management of structural assets for the Regional business unit.

Maximise commercial outcomes for Queensland Rail by coaching and supporting teams to effectively manage stakeholder relations and to communicate with positive impact.

Lead and coach individuals and teams in delivering improved reliability and outcomes through business improvements, technology development and innovation.

Ensure technical services team demonstrates professional integrity and good business approach to structural engineering products delivered to meet operational requirements and management of the asset.

Provide guidance, as a professional engineer, for structural engineering works and monitor and manage compliance with quality systems, internal and external standards, safety and environmental legislation, regulations and practices.

Establish and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders to facilitate effective strategies and governance procedures and where applicable, build capability.

Assess and support research and development projects that promise significant improvements to the management of the structural infrastructure assets.

We are seeking interest from people who have:

A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering

Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) in Structural Engineering

High level of skill in leading a team of technical professionals providing technical advice, design and verification services.

Extensive knowledge of railway structural infrastructure engineering, design, materials, standards, specifications and construction and maintenance methodologies (minimum of 10 years’ experience in this field).

Extensive knowledge of reliability techniques and high level of skill in leading failure investigations.

Extensive knowledge of safety, governance, risk and compliance and its application to the regulation and risk mitigation for the construction, maintenance and operation of structural infrastructure.

Substantial level of skill in interpersonal communication, consultation and negotiation skills that create an environment that motivates employee performance
