Job Overview To work towards zero new HIV infections and hepatitis C elimination by 2025, this post will be instrumental in introducing and sustaining HIV and viral hepatitis testing in the Emergency Department at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trusts (UHDB) as well as tracking any positive patients and linking them into the relevant care pathways.

To work in collaboration with Hepatology, Sexual Health and HIV, Emergency Department, Microbiology, Urgent and Emergency Care, and Health Improvement Collaborative teams to implement blood borne virus (BBV) opt-out testing within the Emergency Department at the University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trusts.

Main Duties of the Job

Have responsibility for, and oversight of the electronic pathology weekly report that records all BBV tests performed in ED to ensure linkage to care following admission or discharge where appropriate.

To be responsible for the follow-up of all insufficient or indeterminate tests.

To work collaboratively with both the HIV and Viral Hepatitis Clinical Nurse Specialist teams.

To raise awareness of the BBV opt-out screening pilot and to assist in the training of staff within the Emergency Department.

To act as an advocate for the patient with liaison and referral to other support agencies as required.

To provide advice, information, education and counselling to patients who screen positive for a BBV.

To raise awareness of the project and deliver staff training.

Help to monitor robust functioning of laboratory reporting and develop relationships with Digital Services and Pathology IT.

To work with the Viral Hepatitis Data Manager to submit reports to NHS England and the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR).

Person Specification Education, Training and Qualifications CPD Requirements

Demonstrable experience.

Full UK current driving licence.

Knowledge, Experience and Training

Demonstrate knowledge of viral hepatitis HIV/ sexual health issues such as confidentiality, stigmatisation, equality and diversity etc.

Experience in using IT including Excel and Word.

Demonstrates ability to work autonomously, within the multidisciplinary team and across services.
