Contractual hours: 37 Basis: Full Time Job category/type: Health & Wellbeing We are seeking an enthusiastic, skilled and resourceful Principal Environmental Health/Protection Officer to assist in the delivery of the work of our Environmental Protection Team. The successful candidate will be responsible for enforcing a wide range of legislation and providing advice in line with Council policy and government requirements. You will be joining a busy, friendly and professional team in a beautiful part of the world and will work in a wide range of subject areas in a variety of commercial and domestic settings. You will also thrive in a busy environment and enjoy a challenge. Applicants will ideally hold a recognised environmental protection qualification, preferably a degree/diploma in Environmental Health. Additionally, they will have experience in enforcement interventions, excellent communication skills and an ability to work with a range of different communities, stakeholders and businesses. Your role would be to promote and protect public health in a range of statutory and non-statutory services. You will help to head the work of the Environmental Protection team with an emphasis on investigating complaints relating to statutory nuisance (noise, smoke, dust, artificial light, etc.), monitoring and reporting on air quality, dealing with Environmental Permits, investigating waste issues, assessing acoustic scenarios, and undertaking Licensing consultations. Successful experience of legal proceedings would also be an advantage. The ideal candidate will have experience of working in an environment requiring direct interaction with the public and dealing with service requests. You should be thorough and diligent with a genuine interest in solving sometimes complex problems. Additionally, the ideal candidate will be an excellent communicator with good literacy skills and an ability to produce and maintain accurate records. They will also be proficient in the use of IT, including competency at using MS Office applications. This is an extremely diverse role requiring an unusually wide range of qualities. A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes is essential, and you will need to demonstrate a real passion for providing excellent customer service. The role includes some out of hours work, usually by arrangement, and participation on an emergency call-out rota.
