About us

As the world’s leading group of science museums, the Science Museum Group shares an unparalleled collection spanning science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine with over five million visitors each year. The Information Security Team are responsible for protecting the Science Museum Group’s network, which includes six sites and numerous staff and assets.

We are now recruiting for an ICT Security Officer on a permanent contract. This role is based at the National Railway Museum in York, on a full-time basis working 35 hours per week with hybrid working also available.

About the role

As ICT Security Officer your role will be instrumental in allowing SMG to continue to deliver on our mission. This is done by using security tools, writing policies, delivering training and using the knowledge and expertise within the team to influence decision making on creating a secure and accessible workplace. You will also contribute to compliance projects such as PCI DSS, Cyber Essentials and GovAssure.

This is an exciting role within an active and involved Information Security team, you will get the opportunity to work with a wide variety of business functions and aid in increasing the profile of Cybersecurity within the organisation through your relationships with the ICT Department and further.

You will be responsible for handling many of the regular projects that the team conducts, such as organising penetration testing and remediating vulnerabilities, producing, updating and delivering training as well as creating and delivering phishing simulations. This role will also take an active role in responding to security incidents, phishing, and malware in addition to assisting with daily alert monitoring.

About you

Joining us, you will have experience of supporting corporate IT environments, this includes devices such as network switches and firewalls, and systems such as Active Directory Domain Services. You will also have good attention to detail in addition to a knowledge of Cyber Security best practices and experience working on compliance projects.

Crucially, you will have the ability to work well in a team and you will be a good communicator able to engage with a wide range of people with varying levels of seniority. You will be proactive with a willingness to learn and engage with new technologies and tasks and have the appetite to develop your investigative and problem-solving skills further.
