We are seeking a Band 6 Deputy Ward Manager to provide strong managerial and clinical leadership on a 19-bedded female acute inpatient unit - Kahlo Ward. We want our Band 6 nurses to be ward-based, leading the team to provide high-quality mental health care and to support and develop our nursing and multi-disciplinary teams. Who are we looking for? Demonstrate that you are a proactive, able and responsive nurse both clinically and in leading a team of nurses. Applicants should have a thorough knowledge of care planning and risk assessment for our client group, including the ability to engage people who are acutely unwell. You will enjoy collaborative working with service users, families and carers and understand the principles of recovery model. A good working knowledge of professional issues including legislation such as Mental Capacity Act 2005, Mental Health Act 1983 (2007) as well as the requirements of Care Quality Commission (CQC) and Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) is essential. You will be required to provide meaningful and robust supervision with staff and to work towards undertaking annual appraisals, which will include providing mentorship and preceptorship. NELFT places a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks, which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff). This post also attracts payment for High-Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum payment of £4,551 and a maximum payment of £5,735) (pro rata for part-time staff). ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES: Communication: • Build effective relationships with service users and carers. • Ensure that relatives and carers of service users, where appropriate, have a good understanding of the condition of the service user. • Provide an effective alternative to hospital admission. • Provide effective liaison between Services. • Respect other disciplines’ viewpoints and communicate with service users, carers, relatives, GPs, other professionals and agencies as appropriate. • Work in partnership with referring agency to develop joint care plans. • Communicate complex clinical information to a variety of recipients, both verbally and in writing. Personal Development: • Ensure that own knowledge and skills are constantly updated. • Actively participate in clinical supervision. • Attend mandatory training as required. Qualifications
Registered Mental Health Nurse Degree Evidence of CPD Experience
Extensive experience of working with people with complex, acute mental health needs and challenging behaviours. Providing staff supervision and appraisal to qualified and non-professionally aligned staff. Risk assessment and management within a mental health inpatient setting. Knowledge
An awareness of NHS Plan, NSF and clinical governance priorities. Thorough knowledge of the 1983 Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, and related legislation. Others
Ability to facilitate positive multi-disciplinary working relationships across all service areas. Ability to explore emotionally demanding aspects of the role with appropriate staff in clinical supervision.
