Fugro are recruiting for a Hydrographic Surveyor to join our world-leading geophysical survey department based at our waterfront office in Portchester on the UK’s south coast. As a Hydrographic Surveyor, you will be responsible for collecting hydrographic data on a wide variety of projects, working with teams in the field and Project Surveyors to deliver industry-leading data to our clients. This is an excellent opportunity for you to gain exposure to a variety of projects working in a range of markets (including renewables, UXO, pipeline inspection) and acquiring different hydrographic data types. The role will combine time based at our Portchester office and offshore on Fugro vessels, although this is a primarily offshore role. Therefore, you will get the opportunity to experience both the onshore and offshore environment, working at the forefront of marine geophysical science. This includes the Project Manager, processing team, other surveyors and our clients. You will report to the Chief Surveyor. Here’s what a typical day would be like: Acquisition of hydrographic data, including multibeam echosounder, GNSS tides, SVPs, USBL, backscatter, sidescan sonar, seismic, sub bottom profiler and magnetometer; Leading and assisting with vessel mobilisations and demobilisations where required; Undertaking offshore survey operations, assisting with back-deck operations, undertaking data coverage checks and creating infill line plans. Who we’re looking for: A qualification in hydrography, ocean science or closely related subject; A technical mindset, with strong problem solving capabilities; Good verbal and written English language skills; An ability to communicate clearly with colleagues and clients; Confidence working under pressure; A high attention to detail, quality and safety; Able to work offshore for periods of up to 4 weeks; Experience of industry-standard hydrographic acquisition best practices; Offshore/practical experience in oil and gas, ocean science, renewables and/or survey industries; What we’ll offer you: Extensive career & training opportunities; Competitive salary accompanied by an attractive package including contributory pension scheme, life assurance and private medical insurance; 24 days annual leave; Option to buy or sell up to 5 days annual leave; Cycle to work scheme; Option to lease an electric car; Due to UK Visas and Immigration requirements, this role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
