Fulltime (37 hours) / 5 days per week with limited home working options

Why Rolls-Royce?

We are looking for a

Senior Data Scientist

to join our Service data analytics team who support the submarines enterprise by using in-service data to gain insights through data analytics and software implementation.

We're a leader in propulsion system design and development for the Royal Navy's nuclear submarine fleet and the sole provider and technical authority.

Join us and we'll provide an environment where you can be yourself. An inclusive, digital-first culture that invests in you, gives you a platform for continuous learning, and access to an incredible breadth and depth of opportunities to grow your career.

You will have the opportunity to learn about how Rolls-Royce Submarines supports the Royal Navy submarine fleet, work with a range of stakeholders with different expertise, understand their challenges and support the development team to deliver valuable solutions.

Our submarines business is responsible for the design, manufacture, supply and through-life support of nuclear propulsion-related products and systems in support of the Royal Navy's submarine fleet.

We offer excellent development, a competitive salary and exceptional benefits. These include bonus, employee support assistance and employee discounts.

Your needs are as unique as you are. Hybrid working is a way in which our people can balance their time between the office, home or another remote location. It's a locally managed and flexed informal discretionary arrangement. As a minimum we're all expected to attend the workplace for collaboration and other specific reasons, on average three days per week.

What you will be doing:

With this exciting opportunity you will get a chance to:

Collaborate with teams from around the business to understand problems and gather requirements for modelling and analysis. Proactively identify trends and opportunities from the data and create visualisations and reports to inform decision making. Work with engineers to support emergent and high priority initiatives with data analytics. Demonstrate your strong creative drive and understanding of what is required from an analytic to engage and excite a user community.

Who we are looking for:

At Rolls-Royce we embrace agility, are bold, pursue collaboration and seek simplicity in everything we do. These principles form our values and behaviours and are an essential component of our assessment process and are fundamental qualities that we seek for all roles.

To be successful in this role you should have: An ability to apply logical, analytical, and innovative thinking on a range of technical problems. A proven ability to apply pre-processing techniques, statistical analysis, linear regression, and time-series analysis to industrial data. Extensive experience in Python and SQL. Ability to visualise data appropriately and in a concise manner utilising a range of technologies (e.g., matplotlib, plotly, Power BI). Familiarity with data manipulation libraries (e.g., pandas, numpy) and machine learning libraries (e.g., scikit-learn). Knowledge of standard software development process, good coding practice and change control technologies (e.g., Git, Azure pipelines). Good time management skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities. A high-level of written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey complex findings to both technical and non-technical audiences. A proactive, persistent and customer focused mindset with a high level of self-motivation, initiative, and ability to be independent.

We're an equal opportunities employer. We're committed to developing a diverse workforce and an inclusive working environment. We believe that people from different backgrounds and cultures give us different perspectives.

And the more perspectives we have, the more successful we'll be. By building a culture of respect and appreciation, we give everyone who works here the opportunity to realise their full potential.

To work for Rolls-Royce Submarines you need to

hold a Security Check (SC) clearance

without any caveats to that clearance. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if you don't currently already have this in place.

Due to the nature of work the business conducts and the protection of certain assets, you

must hold a UK nationality . Any dual nationals will require additional scrutiny and background checks prior to commencing work with RRSL.
