Lead Subsea & Pipeline Engineer KBR Consulting International draws on a heritage of over thirty-five years specialising in the front-end phases of engineering projects from pre-feasibility, up to and including preliminary Front End Engineering Design (FEED) phases. In addition, we undertake small FEEDs as well as providing specialist consultancy to later through to phases of projects. The front-end nature of the work means that we are often involved in developments in areas and technologies new to the engineering industry. With clients ranging from large internationals to smaller independent companies, we are currently heavily involved globally in the transition from oil and gas to other sources of energy (including hydrogen and ammonia), decarbonisation, production of bio-fuels and the move towards minimal manning of offshore production facilities. Other projects include strategy / master plan development (‘Decisioneering’ process), financial modelling, product & energy optimisation, maximising asset performance and petrochemical integration. The subsea and pipeline engineering discipline covers onshore pipelines, offshore pipelines and subsea engineering. Subsea and pipeline engineers use their technical expertise and problem-solving skills to find optimum technical solutions whilst working alongside other engineering disciplines to ensure a robust, economic and safe design. Subsea and pipeline engineers gain exposure to design, construction and operation aspects, including in many cases state-of-the art design approaches. Job Summary The Lead Subsea Pipeline Engineer will be responsible for overseeing the engineering and design of subsea pipeline systems. This role will focus on ensuring that all technical aspects of pipeline projects are effectively managed, from concept to installation. The ideal candidate will demonstrate expertise in subsea pipeline design, installation planning, and project execution, working collaboratively across multiple engineering disciplines to achieve successful project outcomes. Roles and Responsibilities Subsea Pipeline Design: Lead the design of subsea pipeline systems, including determining route optimization, alignment, and wall thickness. Ensure all designs meet current industry standards and safety regulations while optimizing functionality and efficiency. Installation Strategy Development: Plan and develop strategies for subsea pipeline installation. Consider environmental factors such as water depth, seabed characteristics, and installation methodologies. Work closely with other teams and offshore contractors to implement practical, safe, and efficient installation procedures. Project Leadership: Manage subsea pipeline projects, setting project objectives, timelines, and resources. Monitor progress to ensure that deliverables meet set targets, including deadlines, budget constraints, and quality expectations. Technical Expertise: Provide technical support and leadership throughout the project lifecycle, collaborating with other engineers (geotechnical, structural, and offshore operations teams) to address design challenges and ensure optimal execution of pipeline systems. Risk Mitigation: Identify potential risks associated with subsea pipeline projects, including environmental or operational hazards. Perform risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies to ensure the safe execution of pipeline activities and compliance with environmental standards. Quality Assurance: Define and implement quality control measures for subsea pipeline projects. Oversee regular audits and inspections to ensure all deliverables adhere to project specifications, industry standards, and safety regulations. Vendor and Contractor Relations: Work closely with equipment suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors, ensuring that selected vendors meet project standards. Oversee contract management and vendor performance throughout the project lifecycle. Reporting and Documentation: Prepare comprehensive reports and presentations for both internal stakeholders and external clients, highlighting project progress, technical challenges, and proposed solutions. Ensure all documentation is accurate, up to date, and effectively communicated. Innovation and Continuous Improvement: Stay informed of new developments in subsea engineering, including emerging technologies and changes in regulations. Proactively recommend and implement innovative solutions to improve project outcomes and operational efficiencies. Qualifications Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Civil, or a related Engineering field. Extensive experience in subsea pipeline design, installation, and maintenance. Deep knowledge of industry codes and standards (API, DNV, ASME) relevant to subsea pipeline systems. Proficiency with design software and tools, such as AutoCAD and pipeline analysis tools like CAESAR II. Strong knowledge of subsea installation techniques, including pipelaying and equipment deployment. Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage large-scale engineering projects. Exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to resolve complex technical issues. Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with internal teams, contractors, and stakeholders. Commitment to maintaining high safety standards and environmental stewardship throughout subsea operations.
