The School of Computer Science at the University of Bristol wishes to hire an outstanding candidate to fill a new senior professorial position in Visual Computing. A surge in successful activities includes the award of two new Doctoral Training Centres in Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity, an unprecedented scale of government investment to create Isambard AI, the UK's most powerful supercomputer, a multi-million pound Bristol-led AI research hub in Collective Intelligence, and the £300m Temple Quarter Enterprise Campus under development including the recent opening of facilities, labs and collaboration spaces for MyWorld, our major regional activity in creative technologies. It is no coincidence that the University of Bristol was named the 2024 AI University of the Year at the National AI Awards. The Bristol region is acknowledged as a leading centre for visual computing. The MyWorld research programme, led by the University, builds on the strengths of this regional cluster and on its international connectivity. MyWorld is a five-year R&D programme, including £30m from the UKRI Strength in Places Fund (SIPF) with a further funding from an alliance of industrial and academic organisations. The post will be appointed on the Professorial scale, dependent on experience. What will you be doing?

The appointee will be expected to contribute to leadership and development of the MyWorld programme, its legacy and related facilities, as well as the strategic leadership of Immersive and Creative technologies within the School and across the wider University and region. The research focus of this post is linked to the strategic objectives of MyWorld, covering a broad span of visual computing fields including novel immersive technologies, experiences and services, real-time delivery, advanced post-production techniques and systems, machine learning methods and user experience measurement.
