We have an exciting opportunity for you to join our Pharmacy team as a Specialist Technician – Technical Services.

You will be part of a team responsible for the provision of aseptically dispensed products, which include chemotherapy, radiopharmaceuticals, and intravenous additives providing a high-quality aseptic service to meet the needs of the trust and external customers.

In the absence of the Team Leader and Unit Manager, you will be asked to supervise staff and manage the day-to-day running of the unit. The post holder will work in close collaboration with other professionals e.g., Pharmacists, nurses, and other Pharmacy staff. At all times you will be expected to work in accordance with laid down procedures and safe systems of work while working on your own. The post holder will undertake within SOP’s the checking of manufactured items.

If the applicants have the appropriate aseptic experience, we will consider applicants who will be qualifying within 3 months, providing they register with either the General Pharmaceutical Council or science council upon qualifying.

Key Responsibilities:

Liaise with other professionals including nurses and clinicians to provide a quality service. Take an active part in Good Manufacturing Practice team meetings. Co-ordinate the supply of Chemotherapy to the chemotherapy day unit ensuring products are supplied in a timely manner. Report to the unit manager any deviations from standard procedures and act upon any changes as required. Perform systems manager duties, ensuring the unit is within specification for manufacture, ensuring all staff are aware of any issues. Report any deviations to senior staff. Take an active part in monthly team meetings to maintain practice; this will include offering suggestions to new practices and ways of working. Take part in a GMP training Rota providing a training session for staff within the aseptic unit. Train members of staff and support the Lead Technician in providing training and re-validation of staff. The post holder will participate in the departmental early and late finishes, weekend and bank holiday rotas, including cross-site working. For full details about this varied and rewarding role, please see attached job description, but some of the responsibilities include: Participate in the compounding of all aseptic preparations, including chemotherapy, clinical trials, radiopharmaceuticals, and intravenous additives within the aseptic unit using isolator technology. Maintain personal competencies to be able to check products manufactured within aseptic services. Always follow procedures, ensuring that the procedure is current and valid and when required work with a senior member of staff to update procedures. Maintain broth validation and skills in manufacturing. Complete worksheets, transcribing detailed information from prescriptions onto worksheets, carrying out complex calculations. If required, querying patient doses with Pharmacists to ensure accuracy in line with standard operating procedures.
