The Department of Mechanical Engineering requires a highly skilled, adaptable and self-motivated technical specialist to provide technical support to its Biomechanics and Structural Testing Laboratories. The successful applicant will be responsible for providing technical advice and support to academic and research staff and to our undergraduate students in the Biomechanics and Structural Testing Laboratories (BSTLs), workshops and laboratories and for the direct supervision of all laboratory users. You will be proficient in the safe operation and use of a variety of biomechanics laboratory equipment together with the use and maintenance of materials and structural testing equipment. You will also contribute technical advice and assistance with the design, manufacture and maintenance of specialist rigs, equipment and components used in the BSTL facilities. As this is a student-facing role, you must be confident working and communicating with a diverse student population. The team are responsible for ensuring a safe working environment for students and colleagues. The post requires full-time attendance on campus; hybrid or home working is not applicable to this position. About you

Applicants should have demonstrable experience of working in a materials testing and/or laboratory environment and possess relevant A-level qualifications or NVQ equivalent. Proven experience of working with material testing equipment and systems is a pre-requisite; however, knowledge of vibration equipment and instrumentation would also be an advantage. A basic knowledge of machining, fitting, assembly and general mechanical skills would be an advantage but training in these disciplines will be provided if necessary. Further information
