Consultant Radiologist (With Paediatric Radiological Interest) St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Applications are invited for a Consultant Radiologist to join a friendly and cohesive team of radiologists with diverse expertise in a busy department and a strong record in teaching and training. The applicant would be expected to join the existing radiologists in providing a comprehensive diagnostic radiology service and providing support for multidisciplinary meetings. The post-holder will also support the running of service in our main department at St George's Hospital.

Position has been approved by The Royal College of Radiologists (Ref: 4390-CR-VG-24 - Paeds JD)

Main duties of the job The successful applicant will be expected, in collaboration with the other radiologists in the department, to oversee and ensure the provision of high-quality clinical services within the Radiology Department. This would consist of providing a comprehensive diagnostic radiology service which includes general plain radiography, CT, ultrasound, and MRI. Experience in leading imaging in multidisciplinary meetings is essential.

In addition, the post will contain general diagnostic paediatric sessions in CT, MRI, US, and Paediatric fluoroscopy screening.

The successful applicant would take part in general on-call and have participation in training and quality improvement activity would also be expected.

The post-holder will also participate in a full-time diagnostic on-call rota (approximately 1:15), alongside regular weekend working (with time off in-lieu).

It is expected that applicants will have the Fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists and a CCT in Radiology or equivalent training and experience.

About us St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest healthcare units in the UK accommodating more than 1000 beds and employing 6000 members of staff, and is closely integrated to the St George's Hospital Medical School, part of the University of London. We have an established national and international reputation as a leading hospital for specialist care including neurosciences, cardiac care, stroke, and oncology. We provide an integrated mix of secondary care and specialist services to children of Wandsworth, Merton and South West London, Surrey, and further afield. We have a comprehensive range of paediatric medical and surgical specialist services supported by PICU and NICU and are a joint treatment centre for oncology with the Royal Marsden Hospital. The Trust is a designated level 1 Major Trauma Centre and has been granted Foundation Trust status.

Job responsibilities A standard full-time Job Plan will contain 10 Programmed Activities which includes 8 PAs for direct clinical care and 2 supporting PAs. Sessions will be a mix of acute/emergency work and outpatient reporting. On-call commitment is required. This post also includes teaching of undergraduates and radiology registrars in the department.

The diagnostic on-call is overseen by a single consultant with the support of a second consultant radiologist on weekends. Each week on call and weekend working is compensated by time in lieu during the week. The post-holder can expect up to approximately 5 weekends (on-call/second consultant) per year. The department is currently exploring how to address 7 day working. In the future, further sessional working in the evenings and at the weekend on a rotational basis may also be required.

Each job plan will be reviewed within 3 months of appointment and will be subject to change. Whilst it is likely that most of the sessions will be based at St Georges, some evening working and lists at either the Nelson or Queen Marys Roehampton may be needed. Person Specification Qualifications and training

Medical Degree

Full registration with GMC

CCT in radiology (or within 6 months at time of interview)

Experience

Reporting A&E, GP, inpatient, and outpatient plain radiograph examinations

Reporting of MRI and CT examinations including general CT

Performing and reporting of general ultrasound examinations

Ability to take full and independent clinical responsibility

Experience of teaching undergraduates, postgraduates, and trainee specialists

Experience in Lymphoma MDT

Skills

Basic biopsy and drainage procedures

Able to evaluate own radiological practice

Experience in CT colon reporting

Computer, PACS, and VR software literate

Knowledge

Knowledge of legislation relating to radiology e.g. IR(ME)R 2000

Understand the principles of Clinical Governance

Other

Ability to work with colleagues as part of a team

Commitment to CPD and teaching

An awareness of own strengths and weaknesses

Approachability

Active interest in research, audit, clinical governance, and teaching
