Our Values We are KIND We are OPEN We pursue EXCELLENCE We are looking for applications from people who share our values to help make us a valued and trusted partner within our care system, that delivers safe effective care to our local population. Job overview
Now is an exciting time to join the Cardiology team at Scarborough Hospital. We are undergoing a major new-build project to re-provide its Acute, Urgent & Emergency Medical facilities & we are looking for Specialty Doctors to work with our existing team. Work has almost completed on a £47M upgrade of our hospital set in the heart of historic seaside town of Scarborough on the beautiful Yorkshire Coast. The new facility is not a new A&E. It is a multi-function clinical space that enables the delivery of our innovative Acute Medical Model (AMM); a pioneering new approach to the delivery of urgent and emergency care which is due to open in October 2024. Not only that, our new unit will house a state of the art Critical Care & Medical Level 1 space on the floor above (which includes coronary care) & this, along with other major site improvements already underway, will transform acute care on the Yorkshire coast. We serve the local population as well as the high numbers of holiday makers that flock to the east coast year after year. Main duties of the job
As a senior level doctor within the Cardiology team, post holders will be expected to be responsible for dealing with acutely unwell patients, supervising and supporting junior staff and advanced clinical practitioners, and helping to coordinate the flow of patients in the department (with the support of the Consultant Cardiologist of the Week). The rota is compliant with the new Specialty Doctor contract and offers a minimum of 1.25 PA per week of protected core SPA time, some of which is worked flexibly. Quality improvement projects and adopting a lead role within the department will be encouraged. We have an established CESR programme in place and successful candidates will be able to apply for a place in the programme as they become available and subject to satisfactory review after one year in post. Working for our organisation
We see approximately 70,000 non-elective patients annually and provide on-site services that cover the majority of medical and surgical services (with the exception of those usually provided at a tertiary centre). We have a well-equipped and very active postgraduate education department on site, and are involved in extensive training activities for students of all disciplines including Hull York Medical School. We see the full range of patients at Scarborough, including children, and we have recently upgraded our helipad to enable use 24/7. We are a Trauma Unit and have links with the local Major Trauma Centre in Hull. Where are we? Scarborough was the country’s first seaside resort, and remains amongst the UK’s favourite and popular locations. We are on the edge of the North York Moors National Park and have excellent opportunities for outdoor activities, both on the water, on our beaches and inland. The town is well connected to the road and rail network with London being less than 3 hours away by train.
