We are recruiting exceptional candidates to join our mission in becoming a fully certified Asset Management engineering services provider of both consultancy and integrated projects, across future global low carbon energy and infrastructure markets. Group Leader – Static Engineering The Static Engineering team within the Asset Management business sector provides consultancy services primarily in the power generation industry including thermal, nuclear and renewables, together with process, oil & gas, petrochemical and the newly emerging fusion energy research sectors, primarily in the field of integrity engineering. Within this function we have an opportunity for a Group Leader of our Static Engineering team based in Renfrew. Altrad Babcock is seeking a motivated and technically skilled professional to take on the role of Group Leader within our Static Engineering team. This role is ideal for individuals with strong engineering expertise who are looking to step into a leadership position, guiding teams to deliver high-quality, timely proposals and project outcomes. As a Group Leader, you will manage and execute engineering tasks, coordinate multidisciplinary projects, and play a key role in supporting decision-making and client relationships. Your role will involve fostering development within the engineering team and ensuring excellence in integrity-focused engineering analysis. This position applies a wide range of industry codes and guidelines to resolve complex challenges while adhering to company processes. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying and incorporating market leading engineering approaches to ensure continuous development and improvement of the product offering. Key Responsibilities: Provide guidance, mentorship, and support to technicians and engineers, fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing. Oversee project delivery, ensuring quality, timeliness, and cost-efficiency. Help create a culture of continuous improvement and innovation. Project Execution Apply company and industry discipline codes, standards, and best practices to deliver engineering project tasks. Coordinate and review technical input to ensure compliance with Business Operating Procedures (BOPs) and Work Instructions (WIs). Support complex projects across multiple disciplines as needed. Client & Stakeholder Collaboration Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Represent the company in technical discussions and project reviews. Governance & Compliance Ensure adherence to national laws, regulations, and company-wide processes. Promote standardised working practices and compliance across all activities. Contribute to lessons learned and process improvements. Identify and implement opportunities for efficiency improvements and innovations. Support a forward-thinking approach to problem-solving and project execution. Identify and incorporate engineering advances to expand and improve the product offering of the group. People Development Take ownership of personal and team development within Altrad Babcock’s talent management framework. Mentor technicians and engineers to develop their skills and knowledge. Support succession planning by building and nurturing the next generation of engineering talent. Typical Duties Manage projects, including resource allocation, cost control, and schedules, to meet client expectations. Develop and oversee technical proposals and cost estimates, ensuring alignment with project requirements. Provide leadership in technical reviews and ensure effective knowledge transfer to the team. Oversee design and assessment processes for pressure vessels, Pipework systems and pressure parts, ensuring best practices are followed. Lead root cause analysis investigations and subsequent repair/remediation strategy development, working in collaboration with colleagues from Non-Destructive Testing, Metallurgy and welding, Process engineering, Manufacturing, etc. Review Fitness-for-Service assessments to and fracture mechanics assessments. Evaluate damage mechanisms in plant components, such as creep and fatigue, and recommend appropriate actions. Identify necessary training and development needs for the team. Key Requirements: You are a motivated professional with strong technical expertise in static engineering and a desire to grow into a leadership role. Experience in structural integrity and pressure equipment design and assessment will provide a distinct advantage, as will familiarity with key international design and integrity assessment standards such as API, ASME, EN. If you have excellent communication and problem-solving skills and are ready to contribute to a dynamic team, we want to hear from you. You will also have: Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline with relevant professional experience. Chartered Engineer status or equivalent is advantageous but not mandatory. Solid experience in mechanical engineering theory and practice. Knowledge of industry integrity assessment codes such as API-579 and BS7910 along with original international equipment design code such as ASME, EN etc. and relevant UK/EU laws and regulations. Capability to manage engineering projects, ensuring quality outcomes within budget and schedule. Familiarity with tools such as ANSYS, Crackwise, Probad, PV Elite, Ceasar, STAAD, AVEVA or equivalent software is beneficial. Why Join Us?
