The Role We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Senior Technician to join our Highway Network Management Team who are responsible for co-ordinating and managing works and activities on the Highway Network. We are looking for an enthusiastic, proactive individual with great communication skills to appraise, monitor highway licences and temporary traffic regulation orders (TTRO’s) on/affecting the highway. As a Senior Technician you will be expected to work unsupervised for much of the time, accessing and assessing information independently, supporting more Senior team members to identify and offer solutions to potential highway and traffic management issues on planned, live and emergency activities. You will use legislation and/or policies to provide guidance on regulatory or technical issues, using this to support and challenge stakeholders where appropriate. In this role, you will; take responsibility for the technical processes relating to highway licences and temporary traffic regulation orders (TTRO) under the general direction of a qualified professional. Key Responsibilities: Appraising and processing applications for temporary traffic regulation orders, approving diversion routes, and signing schedules Establish and maintain good working relationships both internally and externally Advertising and informing stakeholders of forth-coming road closures/temporary traffic regulation orders Appraising and processing applications for highway licences Ensuring highway licences and TTRO’s are co-ordinated with other activities on the highway Supporting Senior officers in reviewing and commenting on temporary event activities associated with events on/affecting the highway Provide cover for other staff during periods of absence This position is currently based at our Castlewood offices in Clevedon. Please be advised that this office will be closed by 2025. Consultation is currently underway to determine the new location for colleagues based in Castlewood. This will be at Weston-super-Mare or within North Somerset. Work Style At North Somerset Council, we offer a hybrid working environment based on four distinct work styles. About You We are looking for an individual who has a good understanding of some of the challenges faced relating to activities/works on the highway, along with a proven ability to manage and maintain professional relationships with all types of internal and external stakeholders, and who possess the following skills and experience: Essential Criteria: Vocational qualification or experience to level 3 or 4 Knowledge and experience of highways legislation Great communication skills Able to work effectively as part of a team Ability to make analytical reasoning and recommendations A flexible and adaptable approach supporting colleagues and others Demonstrable ability to work to set deadlines and manage own time effectively Present evidence clearly and confidently Ability to travel to sites throughout North Somerset Desirable Criteria: Be familiar with digital co-ordination software and have a good working knowledge Confirm software A full driving license Ability to interpret maps, plans and drawings A temporary traffic management qualification (ie, NRSWA, LANTRA) What We Offer At North Somerset Council, we value our employees and provide a supportive and inclusive work environment.
