Section 2 - Purpose of Job

This is an exciting opportunity to become Senior Compliance Manager at Sumitomo Mitsui DS Asset Management (UK) Limited (" SMDAM UK "). SMDAM UK is a subsidiary of Sumitomo Mitsui DS Asset Management Ltd, one of the largest investment management companies in Japan, offering discretionary investment management, investment trust and advisory services to a range of institutional investors, pension funds and government agencies worldwide.

Section 3 - Background

The Senior Compliance Manager is a key hire in support of SMDAM's plans to significantly expand its asset management activities outside of Japan over the next ten years.

Section 4 - Facts / Scale

The successful candidate will have 5 - 8 years of proven compliance experience working in the asset management industry and possess a thorough understanding of the workings and regulation of the investment funds industry, including UCITS, AIFMD and MiFID.

Section 5 - Accountabilities & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

Providing broad compliance advisory support to the business across all aspects of the existing product set and all future account/product launches Preparing, maintaining and updating compliance policies and procedures Managing the compliance program on a day-to-day basis, covering financial promotions, personal account dealing, updating compliance logs / registers and preparing / submitting regulatory filings Leading the firm's ongoing compliance monitoring program Proactively reviewing upcoming regulatory changes, assessing the impact on the firm and its funds and ensuring effective implementation Managing service providers including outside legal counsel and compliance consultants Preparing management and internal group reporting for all compliance-related requirements Providing ongoing compliance training to firm employees Assisting with compliance queries and due diligence requirements from existing and prospective investors

Section 6 - Knowledge, Skills, Experience & Qualifications

Required experience: 5 - 8 years compliance experience gained within the asset management industry (traditional liquid assets experience essential. Alternative funds, including private credit, compliance experience highly desirable) Extensive experience and knowledge of the UK and European regulatory regimes relating to asset management, including UCITS, MiFID II and AIFMD and FCA Handbook rules in respect of asset management Knowledge and understanding of EU and UK Sustainability Regulation highly desirable

Skills: Commercial mindset and business acumen in order to take a pragmatic and solutions-focused approach to compliance Attention to detail and strong analytical skills, using initiative to resolve problems Strong relationship-building skills with the ability to engage proactively with colleagues at all levels Proactive and motivated in fostering a positive compliance culture Excellent policy, report writing and communication skills
