We are looking for a Transport Manager to join our team and be responsible for managing significant, large-scale construction activity across multiple sites. EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW This critical role has overall accountability for ensuring that all mains renewals fleet activity remains safe and legally compliant across all programmes of work. This role will manage a small team of Transport Advisors and will work closely with the Network Construction teams and the wider Fleet Operations teams to ensure we fulfil our legal obligations under the O licence. Some other responsibilities include: Legal Compliance: Ensure the team effectively manages legal compliance and maintains a roadworthy and legal fleet for Mains Renewal. Independent Advice: Provide independent advice, guidance, and challenge to the Mains Renewal teams on transport compliance to ensure that health and safety (H&S) and compliance remain a key focus. Collaboration: Work closely with the wider Fleet Team and the Network Construction teams to ensure all H&S, O licence, and compliance requirements are met across the mains renewal function. Team Management: Oversee the activities of, and line manage the mains renewal transport team, ensuring our HGV fleet, licenses, and legal checks are completed correctly and efficiently within SLA. HGV Assurance: Ensure the HGV assurance team has planned and booked all MOTs for the HGV fleet, ensuring vehicles are legally compliant and roadworthy. Driver Compliance: Ensure the mains renewal function remains compliant with drivers’ working hours, effectively tracking and monitoring drivers’ hours in line with legislation (working time directive and GB rules). Company O-Licence : The successful candidate for this role will be named on the Company O-Licence. WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE ROLE To succeed in this role, it is expected that you will have a Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC), which is desirable but not essential. An excellent understanding and practical experience of O licence requirements is crucial, along with experience in managing HGV route planning. We are looking for someone who is familiar with assurance and governance processes and knows how to access information on regulatory obligations. Building effective working relationships with a diverse range of people, from senior management to front line, is also essential. A full driving licence is essential for this role. You should be able to support and manage performance, delivering improvements and high standards. Organising and prioritising the workload of yourself and your team, managing multiple priorities within tight deadlines, is crucial.
