What is the opportunity

This is a role that demands a subject matter expert in the field of credit risk management. They will have demonstrable experience in credit risk analytics covering the entire customer lifecycle. The role holder will be able to demonstrate experience in 1st and/or 2nd Line roles that have involved the development, deployment and/or oversight of credit risk strategies for new loan origination and portfolio management. As the 2nd Line expert, they must demonstrate the gravitas to be able to opine upon and constructively challenge 1st Line Management on their end-to-end use of credit risk models and supporting strategies. They will oversee and challenge 1st Line Management to ensure that the credit risk strategies deliver the right outcomes for customers and the Bank. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the regulatory landscape that impacts credit risk. They must also understand Board and Group Risk Appetite expectations, to ensure that 1st Line continues to operate within the necessary boundaries. The role holder will have a particular knowledge of retail, asset finance, and business banking products and will be able to demonstrate capabilities in overseeing and challenging 1st line. In this role you will:

Lead the 2nd Line Credit Risk Strategies & Models Oversight team. They will work with the senior management teams of 2nd Line Credit Risk to ensure their work provides incremental value to the broader 2nd Line oversight framework; Provide timely and informative assurance to Senior Management and Governance Committees about the Bank's credit risk strategies, usage of models and the associated impact on new lending quality and portfolio performance; Support, guide, and challenge the First Line Business Unit Management, UK 1st Line Credit Risk, CRPC, and senior UK and Group Committees (as required) in overseeing the effectiveness of credit risk strategies. This should include the impact on agreed credit risk appetite and lending plans; Provide assurance over the development, integrity, monitoring, and potential remedial measures concerning the UK's IFRS9 models; Provide assurance over the monitoring and potential remedial measures concerning the UK Business Banking BIPs model; Establish and maintain a framework that will enable the 2nd Line to have confidence that the data lineage for IFRS9 and the broader credit risk management data used within the 1st Line is robust; Identify, evaluate, and communicate key emerging and forecast credit risk trends to ensure the CCO and CRPC are equipped to deliver appropriate risk responses. This will involve making use of portfolio forecasting and segmentation techniques; Build effective relationships with 1st Line and Group Risk colleagues to ensure that the credit strategies deployed in BOI UK are aligned with best practice and regulatory expectations. This must include Consumer Duty as well as broader prudential regulatory requirements. Engage with senior management across the firm, providing advice and leadership on aspects related to credit risk strategies for customer management; Manage and develop the 2nd Line team. The role holder will establish an enduring framework that will help to build knowledge and expertise within the team, helping colleagues to achieve their development and career aspirations; What will make me stand out:

Experience of Retail, Asset Finance, and Commercial credit risk management across all stages of the customer life-cycle; A comprehensive understanding of data and modelling requirements for credit risk management - including but not limited to operational scorecards, behavioural models, portfolio forecasting, stress testing, and IFRS9 Expected Credit Loss; Proficient in the use of SAS software including Enterprise Guide and Enterprise Miner; Regression techniques (Linear, Logistic, and Stepwise), Model validation approaches, and Performance monitoring; A thorough understanding of the internal and external data types that are used for credit risk modelling, credit strategies, and portfolio management; Team leadership/people management experience; Excellent communication skills. The role holder must be able to explain very technical analytic matters in plain English; Report writing skills. Essential Qualifications
