MER Working Supervisor Location: London/Nationwide Salary: Competitive Contract Type: Permanent Working Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday What you will do: Key Responsibilities:

Lead and actively participate in mobilisation, excavation, and reinstatement activities. Plan and allocate daily tasks to the team, ensuring clarity of roles and responsibilities. Coordinate the mobilisation of equipment, tools, and materials to and from the site. Oversee excavation and reinstatement operations, ensuring compliance with project specifications and standards. Monitor site progress, addressing issues promptly to minimise delays. Perform excavation, backfilling, and reinstatement tasks as part of the team. Operate hand tools and small plant equipment, such as compactors or mini excavators. Ensure high-quality reinstatement of surfaces, including paving, tarmacking, or landscaping. Assist with the preparation and maintenance of worksites, ensuring safe and efficient operations. Champion a safety-first culture on-site, promoting adherence to HSE regulations and company policies. Conduct daily safety briefings, toolbox talks, and site-specific risk assessments. Ensure team members use personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow safe working practices. Identify and report hazards, incidents, or near-misses to the Groundwork Manager. Implement environmental best practices, minimising the impact of operations on the surrounding area. Motivate and support the team to achieve project goals and maintain high morale. Provide on-the-job training and guidance to less experienced operatives. Monitor team performance, addressing issues constructively to drive improvement. Promote a culture of collaboration, professionalism, and accountability within the team. Ensure tools, equipment, and materials are available and in good working order. Perform routine maintenance checks on equipment and report defects to the Groundwork Manager. Manage site inventory, ensuring efficient use of resources and proper storage. Monitor plant and material usage to minimise waste and optimise costs. Act as the primary point of contact on-site, liaising with the Groundwork Manager and other stakeholders. Provide regular updates on site progress, challenges, and resource needs. Maintain accurate site records, including daily logs, risk assessments, and material usage reports. Support the preparation of handover reports and documentation as required. What we’re looking for: Proven experience in groundwork operations, including mobilisation, excavation, and reinstatement. Strong leadership skills with experience supervising teams in a construction or groundwork environment. Comprehensive knowledge of excavation and reinstatement processes, tools, and materials. Awareness of HSE regulations, including risk assessments and safe working practices. Ability to read and interpret site plans, drawings, and project specifications. Physical fitness and ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Desirable: CSCS card or equivalent site certification. Experience operating small plant machinery (e.g., compactors, mini excavators). NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Groundworks or Construction Supervision. First Aid certification or other relevant safety training. Personal Attributes: Leadership: Confident in leading and motivating a team to achieve high performance. Problem-Solving: Able to identify and resolve operational challenges effectively. Detail-Oriented: Ensures work is completed to the highest quality and safety standards. Team Player: Collaborates effectively with colleagues to meet project objectives. Dependable: Reliable and proactive in managing responsibilities. Health & Safety Responsibilities: Ensuring all site activities comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations. Leading safety briefings and toolbox talks. Reporting safety incidents, hazards, or unsafe practices to the Groundwork Manager. Promoting the use of PPE and safe working practices among team members. Training & Development: Leadership and supervisory training. NVQ qualifications in Groundworks or Construction Supervision. Technical training in small plant machinery operation. Health and safety certifications, such as SMSTS, CSCS, or First Aid.
